Just got back from the circuit city with my new $99 phillips box. First thing i'm going to do is back it up of course, but what needs to be done to set this up for emulation? (I have a 5th gen ird now so i know about the hu cam/zkt), how do i get the tivo to get the guide data and not put up a nag notice? I've read some about the fixup02c but i haven't found much more on it. Can i actually get the guide data etc. without doing guided setup and having it dial out? Does the guided setup actually dial out on the dtivo units?

Before you even power the sucker up for the first time, back up the hard drive OR download a backup from here (ftp://ftp.abs.net/tivo/Backups/) .
The emu portion of the setup is cake, and should be no different than your other 5th gen receiver. Your machine will never need to be connected to the phone line and will think it is.
1. Go to www.linuxnewbies.org and do some easy reading about the file system to help familiarize yourself with the linux filesystem.
2. Go to http://www.geocities.com/aboutlinux/commands.html to familiarize yourself with some basic linux commands.
3. Check out FAQ's at http://tivo.samba.org/index.cgi?req=all which will help get you started.
4. Read through this forum and search, search, and read, read.

You can get all of the guide data from the sat stream, and yes it will attempt to dial out during the guided setup. If you edit TClient-lib.itcl to execute the fixup02c script, it will think that it made a successful call, even if it is not even connected to the phone line.
