I have a DSR6000 that came as a one Quantum Fireball 40 Gig HD.
When putting HD to the PC, system hang when it boots. I either used cable select and slave/master jumper setting, same problem. Do you think Tivo modified the drive? Thanks. I did use
the 40 pins IDE cable from the Directivo box. The default factory setting for the HD is cable select. This is a new box I just bought from CC, I don't care about the warranty so I broke the seal. My PC is Pentium III 500 Mhz. Please give more advice

Make sure you are *NOT* using one of those new 80pin IDE cables, ATA66 I think they are called. The drive will not work properly if its connected to one of these cables. Also, dont use cable select, it makes it harder for a newbie to figure out what device to use in linux. Easiest way, is to leave the drive as set from factory, connect it to a regular IDE cable, and slap it on your IDE Secondary port...*presto* there's your /dev/hdc easy, and to the point.
Good luck!

You may also be running into the same problem that I am. You might want to check FIC's website about the issue with their BIOS and cretain drives.

I also found this on Maxtor's Website

I had to go to another system, since my BIOS was not updated for that error yet.

Had same problem.....this is what I did...
Leave the hd as "CS" as it comes in the tivo
DO NOT go to your bios to detect hard drive.....your pc will hang. Jut put the TiVo hard drive on the secondary master. This will be hdc when booted.
Now BOOT with the CD boot....not the floppy. If the drive is locked...it will auto unlock it.
After the boot cd has booted, press "shift and the page up" key. This will move you back up the page to see if the TiVo hard dirve was detected. You are looking for the Quantium to be on "hdc"
I have never had a problem doing it this way. I have done many of them now for friends.
Now if you have to use the "boot floppy" go ahead.
