Not sure if this is covered elsewhere, it probably is but I haven't found it yet...if this needs to move to a new forum, fine. :)

I actually got the Tivo Desktop player but it refuses to play the things through Windows Media Player 9 (I use Windoze 2000 Pro), or any other software I can find. The audio codec is shows is CyberLink Audio Decoder, and no video coder when it tries to play. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this? Tivo suggests aomething called ac3 filter but this just seems to take up residence in my control panel and do nothing.

AC3 is an audio codec you need a video codec as well, I'm not sure what you are trying to playback, .tivo, .ty, extracted mpg ??

The file came in a .tivo format. The tive people did not have another codec beyond the ac3 filter for Windows 2000. Are you saying that Winblows 2000 can not play .tivo files? And if it can, how do I assign a video codec to the .tivo file, the computer can't find one

Do you currently play DVD's on your Win 2K box? If not, do you have any install disks for things like the motherboard, DVD drive, DVD burner, etc. that probably have a Win 2K version of one of the popular DVD players. That may install a codec that TiVo Desktop can make use of. Not sure if you would have to install the DVD player software and then reinstall the TiVo Desktop or not.

Good Luck,
