Hey all,
Recently, my standalone Philips HDR31203 was having stuttering problems while watching live tv. Fearing a bad disk, I replaced both drives with two new ones. The old one had the original 30GB drive, plus a 120GB upgrade. The new TiVo has two 160GB drives.
After performing the upgrade, watching recorded shows and Live TV seemed to work fine. But, since I had unplugged the unit for a couple of weeks, I didn't have any more service data, so I needed to contact TiVo.
I tried to fire off a test call using the Tivonet card I have installed, but it failed. "Failed to connect to service". I wanted to take a look at the logs to see if the card was showing any errors, but I couldn't get into backdoors mode, because there was no way to get to the Ouija screen, due to the lack of service data, and the refusal of the TiVo to get to any screen that would search for shows.
Feeling lost, I pulled the drives out of the TiVo, and stuck them back into the computer. Using Dylan's Boot Disk, I mounted the drives and tried to view the logs (MFSTools would keep giving me a "need to specify filesystem" error message when trying to mount the partitions.)
Finally, I was able to get to the logs in /dev/hdc9, but I could only find two log files: tivoLog.pub (empty) and tivoLog.prv (with some data). I couldn't find any other logs at all.
Feeling frustrated, I put the drives back in the TiVo, and fired off a call using the built-in modem. It downloaded service data properly. With new data in-hand, I was able to turn on backdoors and clear-enter-clear-thumbsup to get at the logs. What surprised me was that again, I only had two logs, tivoLog.pub and tivoLog.prv!
Has my TiVo lost all ability to log data? How can I bring it back?
I want to be able to peruse the logs to see what kind of errors are occurring when trying to use the TiVonet. I also want to find my stupid MAC address of the card so I can figure out which particular IP is being assigned this TiVo via DHCP (too many computers on our corporate LAN to isolate the TiVo's assigned IP from the rest).
Anyone seen anything like this?
System information:
TiVo Philips 31203 Standalone Series 1
Two 160GB HDs
SW: 3.0.01-1-000
Lifetime sub
Thanks,
Roger
