Okay: I am certain to be flamed, but here is the info:

I have a stock SD-DVR40 with 2 Maxtor 120s. Other than that it is just a 1.5 year old DTivo.

About 1.49 years ago, I started looking into getting ethernet (via USB). I know: it is deactivated by DTV. I bought an SMC2208USB because it was a good deal, and there were some posts here that had success with it. As with many projects that directly impact "she who must be obeyed", I held off. Those 155 Charmed episodes are sacred to her.

Nonetheless for my caution, I plugged the Dongle in to the top USB port, and forgot.

I restarted this morning...and received 6.2. No Hacks, just came on down (was probably there for months, but I hadn't restarted).

I was shocked to see a Netgear Wireless Router LAN Port light up. Apparently the USB is now hot. Furthermore, I have 100Base , and activity (flicker). Sure enough, The DTivo has leased an IP from my router.

I have pinged and attempted to Telnet, to no avail.

What are your experiences with this?

Tier 1 Tech support says both Phone and Ethernet are being used for daily calls.
Tier 2 Tech says something will be on those ports this year, but feigned ignorance to the whole USB/Ethernet deal
#401 does not seem to help: I get failed calls
I don't see any menu changes with or without the Dongle on restart

Until DTV turns on Networking, and who even knows if they will, the only way to do anything with the USB ports is to hack your Tivo.

They wont, why give themselves more to compete against with the in house baby in progress.
Network will be the selling point to convince Directivo owners into buying a new DVR from D*V later in the year.
Why give you what they can sell you.
