What are the benefits of 6.2 over 4.x hacked?
I know that the guide problems and other stuff has been fixed. But hasn't this all been fixed via hacks to 4.X?

For me using a S2 directivo:
Speed - faster guide and faster channel changing
valid version for calls back to the mothership
and most imporantantly: a chance to learn more by upgrading again!

it is much faster.
For folks who haven't hacked yet, this one is the easiest way to HMO especially if you let the box update itself to 6.2
Pretty blue menu backgrounds :D

Thanks, I had some time today to manually go thru the long 6.2 thread, since search did not turn up much on "6.2 benefits". Here is what I found, please add to this anything I miss:
faster menus, faster guide windows, and grouping in the Now Showing List
"faster 'Now showing' list is reason enough to be upgrading. It's not a significant improvement if you have a dozen recordings; but if you have over 40, it's several times faster."
"The guide speed is about 1.5-2X better...The menu speed is significantly faster...In terms of added features, sadly it basically looks like 3.1.1c with folders."
Some of the hacks are available, but not all:
---------------------------------------------------------
nocso patch to tivoapp works (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=159809&postcount=8)
there are backported drivers for better network speeds
TivoWebPlus 1.1pre2 works mostly
modified version of fakecall for 6.2
tserver works, can download and process video with tytool
Telnet works
ftp works
UPDATE:
Superpatch version now for 6.2, so pretty much the 6,2 version is now fully hacked:

NOTES:
killhdinitrd does NOT support this kernel (yet?). Looks like the killhdinitrd'ed 3.1.5 HD kernel will be the best bet for most
Once the 6.2 rollout has been done for a while, D* might decide that it's time to make sure everyone has the "benefits" of the new software, and throw the master switch. They've never done it before, but they have the incentive now. It's best to be prepared, and make sure we can hack 6.2
The next step for hacking on a DTivo is 7.x, not for TivoToGo, but for the Tivo SDK thing so we can run those applications (which might be cool). Not a huge driving force though.

It also has support for more satellites than 4.0 does (forgive me, I don't know the name of the satellite, as I don't receive it). The speed improvement is the main reason I upgraded, as my main unit has 500GB of shows. It was slowing it down so much that recordings would often start a minute or so late (endpadplus helped a little), and if you were about to go out the door and told it to record what was showing, it could literally take a few minutes. Now, it's just as fast it was before I upgraded the drives.

If you receive locals on the 72.5 degree satellite, then 6.2 is your only option for locals and HMO.
Another benefit is that 6.2 has native support for LBA48, so you can use hard drives larger than 137GB without using custom kernels.
