View Full Version : A question regarding a 160GB and non-monte'd kernel

If I wanted to migrate my hacked HDVR2 from a 120GB to a 160GB drive what issues (if any) will arise?

I hacked it with a 4.0.1b image and a killhdinitrd'd 4.0.1a kernel (plus things like HMO, MRV, etc), but no monte. Will it just only address up to 137GB or will I get errors and eventually an unusable system?

TIA

Actually, it'll only access 120 Gigs unless you start over. AFIK, HDVR2's came with a 40 gig drive with 2 MFS partition sets. An image of this drive could be expanded only once.

Starting over seems like a lot of trouble for only 40 Gigs. I would suggest the best approach would be to start over, get a larger (200 - 250 Gig) drive and upgrade to 6.2, which has native LBA-48 support, HMO/MRV, AND a much faster UI.

Will 6.2 HMO work with 4.0 HMO?

I really hate to completely start over because I have lots of recordings already on the drive.

Here is my complete situation. I just recently got both of my HDVR2s hacked to 4.0 with all of the goodies. Everything was fine up until about 2 weeks ago when one of them started making extra hard drive noise. I could live with it as it was not too terribly loud. Then my recordings and live TV started pausing and skipping, so I decided that I needed to replace the drive. I have a couple of options in replacing the drive. I have my old 120GB that was in this HDVR2 prior to moving it to 4.0 (I had only done a Hinsdale upgrade to use the 120GB drive) and I have a brand new 160GB drive.

I have a couple more questions

Is there a way to move from 4.0 to 6.2 while the drive is active on the Tivo or do I really have to start from scratch?

What would be the best approach to keep my recordings?

Will all of the things I did with my 4.0 box still work on a 6.2? Those would be HMO, MRV, TyTools, TWP (including playback on my PC).
