View Full Version : need a bit of help - SAT-T60

I am new to TiVo hacking.. and also to Linux..

This is not to say I am clueless.. I know what I am doing with computer hardware, and know how to hack the DirecTV side of a DirecTiVo...

That Said,
I currently have a SAT-T60 with 2.5 installed. I am looking for a way to hack it, completely.. I don't feel safe emulating with a receiver that calls TiVo\DAVE at least once a month...

I am pretty sure there is no current (freeware) way to bypass 2.5 according to what I have read. I am currently downloading a 2.0.1 image of a SAT-T60, and MFS tools 1.0 static, to restore it (that is what was used to back it up..). After I restore it, I should then be able to use fixup02c (also currently d\ling..) to hack it, and get rid of the nags, leaving the only non-functional part of the TiVo, the Network Showcases, & TiVolution Magazine.

Now, Here is the problem:

I have never used linux before. I have used some unix, but very little. So,
A) where can I get a linux boot disk?
B) do I have to erase the current contents (obviously after I back them up..) of my Tivo drives before restoring 2.0.1 onto them?
C) If so, how can I do that?
D) My DirecTiVo is a dual drive system. How does that affect the way I restore 2.0.1 onto them?
E) Does anyone know of an easier way to do this? (ie a program that uses windows to restore\backup, and know of a compatable 2.0.1 image with fixup02c already installed. - Asking for a lot here  )

Thanks in advance, to all!!

(A) Take your pick: Bootable floppy disk (http://pvrhack.sonnik.com/tivo/dylans.asp)
Bootable CD image (http://www.9thtee.com/tivoupgrades.htm)

(B) & (C) I dunno, never done it, but I dont think so, I would think that it would be a complete image restore.

Cheers...

(D) I would think that restoring from a dual-drive system would be the way to go there

(E) Dont think so, I've read that the drives aren't compat with any of the standard windows disk imaging software like ghost. I also wondered why people don't image their systems *after* the fixes have been applied but I assume there is some legal reason why that isnt done, all I've ever seen is the virgin disk images

read towards the end of this thread it may give you some ideas.

As of right now 2.5 is unhackable, you will probably want to restore a 2.0 or 2.01 image onto your drive (after backing up your current drive), and attempt to use the fixup script to prevent your tivo from having to dial in. (thats probably how i would handle it.)

B) & C) No, the restore of the 2.0.1 will overwrite the current drive.

D) the way I would handle this is to purchase a drive that is at least as large as your two drives combined. That can be your new A drive, leaving the B drive open to expand the hours with a really huge B drive.

Also, as Glitched mentioned... Make certain you back up your current drives using mfstools. Also, if you are going with replacing the current A/B with a big A, then I would maks the mfs backup of the current system a "one drive" backup by divorcing the drives.

Make certain you restore your current system onto a large drive to make sure it is a good backup. You always want to be able to restore to a baseline.

E) Linux is it. Dont worry, it is much like
unix. Also read http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/
if you have not already.
