(posting here since I've gotten no response so far on Tivocommunity. Sorry if this is too much of a newbie question here...)
Ok. So, I finally received the the 6.2 upgrade and have a 300 gig Seagate drive ready to add. I plan to keep using the 80 gig stock drive and add the 300 gig Seagate. Since 380 gigs > 254 gigs, using MFS Tools to make a 127 meg swapfile shouldn't be enough. What then? How do I make a swapfile bigger than 127 megs?
Is this a non-issue w/6.2? Someone else said that fsfix doesn't even run on 5.x, but I've got 6.x. Back in the old days w/my Series 1 Tivos, I have hit GSODs before and I'm *GLAD* I properly increased the swap space otherwise I'd have wasted a bunch of time trying to fix GSOD looping probs. I'd REALLY rather be on the safe side unless we know for sure fsfix doesn't run on 6.x. (I know I know, tivoupgrade doesn't think expanding the swap file is needed.) Copykern sounds wrong since that sounds like it's for Series 1 units. My DVR80 isn't Series 1.
I plan to keep all the recordings and just add the B drive. I plan to make a small backup (w/o recordings) and restore it just to test it out.
Then, If I can somehow make the swap bigger than 127 megs, it seems like I
- need to make a complete copy of the A drive onto the Seagate and expand it (step 10, upgrade config #3 in Hinsdale FAQ).
- boot to verify it works
- use mfsadd (step 10, upgrade config #1) to add the stock 80 gig drive as my B drive
If the swapfile is really a non-issue for 6.2, then I'd save a ton of time by only needing to do mfsadd instead of the very slow full drive copy.
