View Full Version : Can I put an old "Extremed" DSR6000 back in action?

I have in my possession a Series 1 DSR6000 that was in use, and a T60 that I have never subbed.

I want to sub to DTV.

Can the DSR6000 still be used, I think it has version 2.5 on it and had the extreme cd run on it. Would I just have to call DTV and order the current card?

What would be the best way to jump into DTV. In terms of gear, and what I could get for free. What is the best way to put together a "deal" so that I get the best of both worlds. New equpment use, and new equipment deals.

Thanks. :) :)

DTV won't sub old or used gear with a new account. Your best bet would be to look for the best deal through a local DTV retailer or check out the DTV website to see what deals they're offering. Once you've got your account established you can add additional receivers, either new or used. You can also substitute different equipment for anything you currently have subbed.

The DSR6000 can still be used if you follow the above guidelines. If it has 2.5Xtreme on it you should upgrade it to at least 2.5.2 or even 3.1 using Superzap's xupgrade iso. This will allow you to get locals with minimal problems. Check out my tutorial in the How To's Only sticky thread in the series 1 support forum for performing the upgrade. It's an oldie but a goodie. ;)

I might have the tools, and apps to up to 2.5.2 that I saved from when I was just about to do it a year ago.

Will look for the Superzap xupgrade iso.

Thanks

You can download it from here. (ftp://tivo:later@ftp.twinbrothers.com/) Look for the xupgradeiso.zip file.

Any recommendations on what would be the best "deal" when subbing with Direct TV?.

I would need 3 receivers, but would want to probably order a DVR from DIRECT on original purpose, then I would want to call them and add two Series ONE Dtivo units.

So should I have the original install put in 3 and then call and change 2 receivers. Or just install 1 and add 2? (2 being my 2 series One DirectTivo's.

Not sure if I would be able to keep equipment like the old days. Or move cards from Orig sub, to my Dtivo Series one. But anything extra would make the deal sweater.

Getting close to pulling trigger...

DTV didnt give me any hassles to activate my old DSR6K, I haven't received the card yet, but you said I'm better off on 2.5.2. Is this only for locals or for everything?

Thanks!!

If your DSR6K had been previously activated on an account in your name then they wouldn't give you any problems reactivating it. The restriction on used equipment only applies to NEW subscribers. 2.5.2 or newer is a must if you want locals. Most any other hacks applicable to a series 1 DTivo should work on any OS version from 2.5 and up unless they are OS version specific, although I can't recall any for a series 1 right now that might be.

Hello All,

It has been a while since I have been around here. I have an old DSR6000 that used to run on an HU card a few years back. I am now subbed to DTV and I want to put it back in action. It has Extreme version 2.5.2.

When I try and put in the new P5 card (or whatever they are using now) I get a message saying wrong access card inserted. How do I get my Tivo to recognize my new card?

Thanks

You have to call DTV to fix it.

What do I need to tell them? Will I have to plug my Tivo into the phone after that??

Huh?? Do you HAVE TO ?? It's up to you if you want to plug it in..
You probably have the NOPHONE active, so deactivate it and a couple of other things too.. like NOPPV, etc.. If you wanna plug it in..
Id say, DON'T plug it in, and order your PPVs via internet. And keep your tivo the way you like it..

A specific card is associated with a specific receiver. DTV is in control of that process. If you have a mismatch, they need to fix it for you. You can't move cards from receiver to receiver without their assistance.

I was thinking about a T60. Is there a known point in the future that the series 1 units will stop working? This is my first post so don't flame too hard if this is a stupid question.

Thanks

When DTV eventually makes the switch completely over to mpeg4 broadcasts the existing DTV receivers and DTivos will become obsolete, with the exception of the SA and HD models. The SA models record from an analog source whereas the HD models will still be able to record OTA digital broadcasts. DTV hasn't begun transmitting anything in mpeg4 yet as they are still getting the infrastructure set up. You should be able to get at least several years' use out of any current mpeg2 compatible DTV receiver or DTivo.
