This information may also apply to Series boxes as well.
In preparation to move to 6.2, I purchased a couple of D-Link DWL-G820 wireless gaming adapter (AKA "Bridge") since it is difficult to implememt WEP using a single wireless USB dongle.
During my installation and testing I uncovered what I believe to be a problem. When the G820 has a power interruption, the rest of your network is unable to communicate to your Tivo. This may apply to other Linux or Windows boxes, but I have only verified it on a DTivo running 2.4.4 kernel (3.1.1x SW) and the backported USB 2.0 and usbnet.o drivers. I worked past this anomaly by placing the following line after my ifconfig statement:
ping -c 10 192.168.0.255
This pings the default broadcast address of the 192.168.0.0 network ten times and seems to wake up the DWL G820 and it is then able to connect to the AP.
If you power cycle only your G820 you will either need to reboot your tivo that has the above command included in your startup scripts or you will need to issue the command from the serial bash prompt.
If anyone has any further experience, please include it.

I have OS 4.01b and the same gaming adapter. Don't seem to experience any connectivity problems. I use the Netgear FA120 ethernet adapter with my gaming adapter setup. No issues here. I did make sure I set everything up with static addresses within my home lan.
Take care..

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me and this thread seems to be related if a few onths old.
I have a Netgear FA120 usb-ethernet adaptor and a DLink DWL-G820 Gaming Adaptor. My DTiVo is a series 2 running version 6.2. My wireless router is a DLink DI-524. I currently have the DTivo configured for dynamic IP and I think this may ultimatly turn out to be the problem.
The FA120 works when it is hardwired to my DI-524 with an ethernet cable.
The DWL-G820 has been configured and works with my laptop. (Laptop configured for Dynamic IP)
The problem occurs when I hook the FA120 and the DWL-G820 together. The DTivo does not connect to my network. Also, I was going to try and setup static IP using the Static DHCP configuration on my DI-524 router, but it only recognizes my laptop and home PC (both running XP PRO) as DHCP clients, but there is nothing in the list for the DTivo.
I started to make an attempt to configure the DTivo for static IP (although, I would like confirmation that this will resolve my problem). I found a couple of things online that say to change the rc.net script. There isn't a rc.net script in the /etc/rc.d/ directory. Also found something that said to set the static IP variables in the /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author file. The file does not contain these variables.
I have found the /sbin/dhclient file and renamed it to dhclient.orig, touched dhclient, changed permissions to 755.. etc, but this only suceeded in locking me out of the tivo. (No Serial cable yet, so restored a backup image)
Can anyone give me a shove in the right direction. I'm thinking the answer is to configure my DTiVo for static IP, but is this really the case? DLink tech support says that once the DWL-G820 is configured, it only needs to be connected to an XBOX or PS2 to work. Is there something fundametally different with the tivo that this would not work? What do I need to add/change/modify/scream at to get this working?

I'm having the *same* exact problem, except with my DWL-G810. Did you figure it out, and if so, can you post your resolution?

Are you using MAC address filtering? The MAC address of the USB adapter will need to be included as allowed.
