Thank you for your time.

Thank you for being so formal.

However, denied.

This has been discussed at length in the past. There is no significant difference between DVD units and other Series 2 units.

Despite the fact that the decision is final, what do you believe the worth of a seperate forum would be?

Despite the fact that the decision is final, what do you believe the worth of a seperate forum would be?Discussion of changing out DVD recorders to newer models. Compatibility and such. Firmware updates. Updating software to support dual layer recording. Ya-da ya-da ya-da.

Look, as stated in some of my other posts, I’m really not a software person. I learn enough to get by. I don’t trip over myself but it’s just not my forte. I am a hardware person. This is why I wanted to build a 1.2 TB TiVo. (That’s about 1440 hours btw. I’ve not given up yet.)

There are things unique to DVD TiVos, specifically the DVD.

I apologize for not doing a good search to see if this question had been asked before. It just seamed like such a good ideal that if it had of been thought of before there would be a forum for the discussion. Just not such a good ideal that it had been thought of before.

While the issues you mention do provide unique capabilities in some aspects to the tivo, rc3105 and others have noted that hooking up a dvd drive to standard tivos is entirely possible. it wont provide tivo interface integration or the same funcitonality, but if all you are talking about is messing with content on discs, then any s2 with the right kernel modules can do some stuff.

again, we appreciate the suggestion, but at this point there is not enough of a need to justify it (and the added overhead of management, more misplaced questions, etc.). please use the s2 dev or support forums as appropriate for your discussion of these topics. if you generate enough interest with the threads you create, then maybe such a forum will be created.
