I finally broke down and let my Toshiba SD-H400 do it's software upgrade.
It updated to 7.1b. I made an mfsbackup and restored it to another hard drive.
At that point everything looked ok.
I then hacked it with killhdinitrd and did just minimal hacks (telnet)
The hacks seem to work fine. But now when I change a channel, after a momentary black screen (which is normal), the last frame of the old channel gets displayed for a little while, then it flips to the current channel.
Any ideas what is causing that? Is that "normal"?
( I went back and re-did everything step by step, checking for this problem -- so I am sure that it is being introduced after the hacks. in a last ditch effort, i deleted my rc.sysinit.author so not even telnet would run... no change).
