Just a FYI for the interested reader (I'm sure ADH knows this): you need a kernel that supports the HDIO_GET/SET_ACOUSTIC ioctls. The 2.4.20 tivo kernels have it. The 2.4.18 kernel does not, as far as I can tell from grep'ing the sources anyway.

The PTV LBA48 disk (that I used back in November) installs version 2.1.24 when you copy the LBA48 aware kernel over.
I get the following from uname -a on my SAS1
Linux (none) 2.1.24-TiVo-2.5 #114 Wed Oct 8 12:06:30 MDT 2003 ppc unknown
ADH - I have a Maxtor 7Y250P0 and don't notice any unpleasant sounds at all. Even with the TV off I'd never know the TiVo was even on... amazing what one generation (I'm assuming) can do for acoustic noise.

Split to Series2 Support.

I'd guess that the HDIO stuff needs to be backported in order to use this on a 2.1 kernel.
What is the default AAM setting on the DiamondMax 10?
