One of my hdvr2's has all the sudden started having an audio cutout problem. About every 4 or 5 minutes the audio will briefly cutout. I can skip back and the audio will be just fine in the same place. It does this in both recorded and live video. My other hdvr2 is working just fine. Both are running 4.0-01-2-240. I have tried rebooting it but no help. Any thoughts?

I had seen, or rather heard, that before on some of my recordings, and that was with 4.01b. As I understood it, that was something that was fixed in 3.x - maybe the fix never made it's way to 4.x? In which case you would assume (or hope at least) that the fix is in 6.2, perhaps give that a try. Do a search on audio hiccup I think, you should see some really old posts on the matter.

What happens if you put the "bad" drive in the good TiVo? (After 51killer of course.)

I had a problem like this for a long time, and it just kept getting worse. After installing 6.2 with the problem still there, i stole an optical audio cable from another dtivo, and used it here. Now my audio works great. So, it seems that for me it was the optical cable i was using for audio.

I hadnt thought of the audio cable. I will change it out and see if it helps.

Odds on this are fairly remote, but some receivers have issues that could cause this. There were a few models of the Onkyos that had a problem 2 years ago (898 and others) that would dropout. The problem was the dolby decoder chip. Dolby released a replacement chip that fixed those problems. Any chance you have one of those older receivers? I wish I had more info on the controller part #, but it may be listed ont he dobly site. This problem would happen with DD 5.1 or 2.0 even the PCM encoded stuff was affected.

Looks like the problem could have been a loose/dirty optical connection on the HDVR2.. I took the optical cable out cleaned it and the connections and so far so good.....
Thanks Goines... :)
