Hello, Let me first thank everyone for reading my thread and helping clear up my confusion.

I have had this DSR6000 since early 2000. I frist (using this excellent website) learned how to "hack" my Dtivo, I had to use the 25Xtreme boot disk then made the seriel cable that I logged in with Hyperterm, did the nosub commands etc...

Then in around 2003 I lost locals and had to upgrade to 2.5.2 (again thanks to this site) and this version was awesome because I no longer need to use the seriel cable/hyperterm to activate the "nophone".

Well ever since I bought my DSR6000 I upgraded it to an 80gig single Maxtor 5400 rpm drive and well now every once and awhile the show pauses for a few seconds and then starts going again. Plus the unit seems to be considerably slower now when switching menus and etc. After searching on this site I have come to understand that this is a symptom of a failing HD. Which I really can't complain since it's given me over 5 years of 24 hours a day use.

What I would like to do is upgrade to a single or maybe even dual 120's (since with MIR these drives are pretty cheap now).

I understand the technology has really progressed since I last messed with my Tivo 2 years ago so I'm really back to newbee status.

My lack of linux knowledge and tivo terms makes this website sometimes difficult to understand.

What I would like to do is transfer everything from my current 80gig to a new or possibly two 120 gig drives. If you could please tell me how I would go about doing this? I downloaded a program called ddrescue but I'm unclear how to use it to accomplish my goal. Sorry if this thread seems to be beyond stupid it's just that I've been tring to research it on my own and all I keep running into is endless links and more threads with conflicting advice. I'd like a more streight forward easy to understand answer.

Thanks again for your time.

You'll need Hinsdale's How To and MFS Tools. Check the 9th Tee website for links to both.

I'm going to probably buy one of those Cachecard's as it seems like a pretty helpful item. Plus will give me the ability to network my s1 dtivo so that's a plus.

Thanks again for the info I found the how-to and it's pretty easy, now I'll just DL the correct software and get to work when the new drive arrives.

Well, I dunno how to use that ddrescue, but I believe that you can use the 25Xtreme disk, boot it up and then follow Hinsdale's How To... The last time I recall I think it had MFS Tools..

Running 2 HDD is going to create more heat for your dtivo.. so keep an eye on it.. the summer is here.

CacheCard is Great.. but just a word of caution.. since your going to be running xpluz 2.5.2 or 3.1, u need to install the drivers manually.
** There might be an updated driver, make sure you read carefully over at silliondust for instructions when installing on an xpluz machine. **
Oh yeah.. 1 more thing.. don't freak when you boot it up, cuz there is a long pause between the caching and regular tivo bootup.
