Last night I finished putting up my home network with my 2 TiVo. MRV works like a charm.
Okay. Now I'm ready to move on to video extraction. I found this thread, "Mfs_Ftp: extract, archive, restore & transfer recordings". Before I read through several years of potentially irrelevant posts, let me cut to the chase here:
1. is Mfs_Ftp used on a Series 2 dTiVo running 6.2?
2. which version of Mfs_Ftp is best for a Series 2 dTiVo running 6.2?
3. are there patches or potential problems I should know about up front?
Thank you.

You can sift through the "irrelevant posts" by using the search feature of this forum.
You can also just try mfs_ftp and see what happens.

There is no need to even search for this answer. The obvious thread of choice would be : Upgrading to 6.2, collected info and tips - NO SUPPORT QUESTIONS (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42325)
Please be aware of the title of that thread (ie the "NO SUPPORT QUESTIONS" part). I'm usually a nice person, but considering how easily available the answers to your questions are, I almost dusted off the flame thrower.

Thank you. I noticed that insertion was a problem under 6.2, and insertion would be the main reason I would opt to use Mfs_Ftp rather than TyTools. So I guess I'll go with TyTools. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

To someone who knows what they're searching for it may seem easy, but to someone who's nearly, but not quite clueless its a bit daunting.

Yes, I know the temptation must always lurk. But then, that's why I posted in the noob forum, no flames allowed here. :D

mfs_ftp works in 6.2 without any problems. inserting and extracting. (it does for me, on my 3 units for the last couple of months)

Are your 6.2 systems dTiVos? If so, did you arrive at 6.2 via the recent D* software rollout or did you do it via hacks? I'm trying to determine if your systems are similar to mine in that regard.
Insertion on a TiVo seems like a very cool feature.

I upgraded them in february via the slices. AFAIK, is exactly the same as the 6.2 you received via DTV. And you can use the stock mfs_ftp, you only need to change a couple of lines of code
