Series I box; insmod unscramble.o has worked for ages, but not used in 6 months or so on this box. Wanted to remake a dvd to replace damaged one (made from same .ty file, so I know the .ty was good).

started unscramble.o; played the file a few seconds;downloaded the ty in tytool, tried to make key file; got "1st 10 chunks etc.).

Made sure module was loaded; rebooted; repeat; made sure module was executable (chmod 755); replaced module; repeat make sure module was executable; reloaded module. Same deal.

Checked tytool (9r18) by making key file from another file; works fine.

Looking for ideas on what to try next to get unscramble.o to work.

Certainly understood that unscramble.o is way old. However, it is the only game in town for shows already on the box scrambled. I know that I should get them all off, wipe the box, start over with the new technique, but time hasn't been plentiferous for me lately.

Something weird must be going on with the unit, so if I keep messing with it, maybe I'll force my hand for a complete wipe. :D

Did you get a software update? Might try forcing the insmod in case the kernel versions are a slight mis-match. Do you get any error output when you insmod the driver?

Hey, Eastwind. :)
No, no software upgrade in ages--as a mater of fact, it is still running 2.5.2.01 or 011 or something (Not in front of the unit now, so can't be sure). And no error output when I insmod the drive. Matter of fact, if I do it twice, it says It's allready running; I can stop it and start it again fine. Curiosity has the best of me now. This doesn't make sense.

I've never had any use for it, so I won't be of any help beyond this. My best suggestion now is to go through the original support thread and see if this issue has already been resolved.

good luck!

I'm trying to absorb all the info on this forum to extract shows from my Tivo.

So if I use the link you provided above that will unscramble my encrypted recordings on my Dtivo? Will it only do it to new recordings or will it unscramble my old save ones also? Will I be able to view all my recordings on the Tivo (new ones after I install this and old ones that I recorded before I install this)?

A lot of reading is in order. The link posted deals mainly with what noscramble used to do: that is make it so that recordings go on the tivo unscrambled in the first place. If that happens, extraction is straightforward.

UNscramble on the other hand was created for folks who for whatever reason had recordings already scrambled on their boxes and wished to extract. I can't explain all the technical details, but basically, you run it, play a few seconds of the recording, then extract. As you will learn, it's old. To my knowledge however it is not outdated, as there is no other option for previously scrambled recorded shows.

If I am wrong in this regard, now would be a good time for someone to set me straight! :D

Still works fine on my s1 dtivo. guess having dtv not upgrade software has its benefits.

Now if I could only figure out how to get burst mode and tserver to work together.
