I'm getting ready to re-do my S2DTs (HDVR2 and DSR 7000). I did them the old way a long time ago using Cabelli to get them to 4.01b...I did a huge amount of research, and screwed up a couple of times, and learned a lot. In short, I paid a big chunk of my dues up front. I'd like to move both of mine to 6.2, with a minimal amount of re-work and mis-step. So, I'd like to check things out as I write up my workflow...any comments or pointing out obvious errors is greatly appreciated.
1) Make sure wife's DTivo remains funtional. Probably the most important lesson I learned the last time....<smile>
2) I put my factory drive back in the other one, and called home. It downloaded 6.2, and I let it upgrade.
I'm about to:
3) backup and restore to a new drive.
4) Is it really as simple as replacing the kernel on the restored drive with a killhdinitrd kernal (like 3.1.5)? If so,
5) write the rc.sysinit.author stuff
6) copy over netconfig.tcl
7) put the drive back in, boot up, and serial in to run netconfig.tcl
8) reboot, do the rest of the hacks?
Can't really be this easy, can it?
thanks in advance..comments on any obvious errors or lapses in judgements greatly appreciated.
