Like I have posted in the Extraction forum I have been doing my homework. With reading all of the post specific to what I am looking for has made me aware of what I am trying to learn here, (Thanks to NutKase for his encouragement). I get lost because some post dealing with these issue are posted as far as 2002. So I get bits and pieces and find out what makes the differences between 3.1 to 6.2 hoping I am getting the right codes and the correct version of what I need.

I have a Phillips DSR704 6.2 that I just hacked (Yes I am a NEWBIE) with PTVnet 6.2 and InstantCake 6.2. Now I want to add TyTool ? so I can begin networking the files to my PC.

So I want to know from other's experience if this is the best/Newest program?

What decryption program is used/ or best to decrypt before extraction?

First off, I want to extract and burn the movies from my DirectTV Tivo. I have seen many different software programs for this. I am asking which is the newest and up to date programs? TyStudio, TyTool, etc.?

When you say you have hacked your TiVo, what hack do you mean?

Can you get a Bash prompt on your TiVo via telnet, for instance? Have you been able to FTP to the TiVo, perhaps to install a 'hack'?

I guess I am a little ahead of myself, I have installed PTVnet which is so I can network the DTivo via FTP and Telnet. I tried to connect the USB to ethernet adapter this morning but it did not show any power light on, so next I connected a Wireless USB adapter just to check if there is power to the USB ports. (PTVnet turns on the USB ports). I did get power to the Wireless USB device so I know my USB ports are working. I am planning on checking it out further when I get home tonight. First I need to get another USB to Ethernet adapter (I had bought Airlink which I assume is not working), PTVupgrade.com and the PTVnet cd reccomends using a linksys USB to Ethernet adapter. PTVnet software sets the ports for use as DHCP so it can be networked to. If all goes well I am going to install TyTool tonight.

It set the IP address to DHCP rather than static.
Installation with PTVupgrade.com ISO images worked very well, and I installed the Hard drive in this morning. I just had to go to work so I did not have an opportunity to check it out further.

Is the Tivo not considered hacked? It is not the origonal hard drive, it is using a ISO image that has been put on an upgraded hard drive with a program made for networking via telnet with FTP?

I posted some succinct advice there, and NutKase elaborated further.

The problem here is that you've paid for p t v to hack your tivo.

You have no idea what exactly you have as far as hacking goes.

You expect us to learn what p t v has done to your tivo. (I know what it has done but, for support you need to turn to the p t v upgrade forums.)

That said, you should have full networking already as that's what you paid for. Telnet to your tivo and then you can hack it further.

All you need to do is:

Patch your tivoapp with the proper NoCSO tivoapp patch. This will tell your tivo to start recording video without encrypting it.

Search for: NoCSO, tivoapp patches, and csoscout.tcl.

I've instucted you on the 'stickies' and several other threads to read. Read them.

Tytools is simply a video extraction/burning application that works with unencrypted/unscrambled video. It's currently supported more thoroughly.

Many of us could cure your issues in about 5 minutes, if we were sitting there. The purpose of this forum is for you to have fun with your tivo and learn a lot about how to control it yourself. Therefore, you'll need to learn how it works and how to control it.

What should you do now?

0. READ/LEARN
1. Telnet to your tivo
2. Learn how to hex edit your tivoapp
3. Patch your tivoapp to record video unencrypted
4. Install Tytools if that's the program you want to use
5. Learn how to use it.
6. Extract the unencrypted video and burn it as you desire.

Thanks Jamie and NutKase, I am reading these threads so I can learn. I see that I have used a companies product to get me started. I didn't realize that was a no-no around here. I am not looking for a quick fix on anything, I am looking to be steered toward threads that are UPDATED and CURRENT. Being a newbie and looking at threads that are 2 or 3 years old does not help with the learning process, it makes for more confusion and more questions that we look for advice on from YOU the people that know more. Well again thanks for your help, my learning continues...

Good. You'll have fun and be very satisfied as the light comes on.

I see that I have used a companies product to get me started. I didn't realize that was a no-no around here.

It's not a no-no. We're just not paid to be the support you need to get you from where they left you to where you want to go. (Please email this thread and that comment to Lou at p t v upgrade.)

I am not looking for a quick fix on anything, I am looking to be steered toward threads that are UPDATED and CURRENT.

We don't UPDATE threads here. Who has the time? These threads are documenting the living, breathing real-time hacking of tivos of all shapes, brands, software versions, and hacking capabilities.

I hope you can handle that but, if you can't... please don't become one of the whiners.

As far as CURRENT, see above. This is the most 'current' source of tivo hacking information anywhere. That's why you're here.

Being a newbie and looking at threads that are 2 or 3 years old does not help with the learning process, it makes for more confusion and more questions that we look for advice on from YOU the people that know more.

Looking at 2 to 3 year old threads is your problem and a symptom of your lack of knowledge of how to search properly. Have you read the 'hints on searching' stickie?

Your attitude is still pretty good for the most part. I just wanted to rebut a small portion of your comments.

Your thanks are appreciated and good luck. Post questions here. Show that you're trying to learn and you're spending YOUR time trying and not just wasting ours asking for 'quick fixes' and you'll do fine and get it all done.

Thank you, for being willing to learn and listen to suggestions.
