Adding networking to series 1

Hi all....
I have a series 1 dtivo, subbed running 2.5.2
Can I add networking (via an addon card) without disrupting current shows in now playing ?? Easiest way to go about it? Have not found much info for this.

The card I have onhand is an x-factor 1.0

I believe that is a Turbonet rip-off clone (i.e. unauthorized).
