Ok I'm not quite sure how to go about this, but how would one set up a network such that the tivo is accessible remotely so that someone, somewhere else, could install tivotool and put in the remote address for the tivo and stream programming? I ask because I'd VERY much like to watch my shows from my shore home without taking the tivo with me.

As an adjunct to that question, is there any way to use tivotool or something like it to watch the streaming video WITH closed captions? That is, does mplayer have some sort of option for this and capability to display them?

Thanks in advance!

You'd just set up your router to forward port 8074 to the internal IP of your TiVo. However, I imagine crashing your TiVo remotely would now be trivial.

In any case, the prospects for streaming MPEG2 video over the internet are not so good.

Sorry.
