so I'm either stupid or don't have a clue.......

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places. I think I pick the right thread and then it just deteriorates into a pissing match and I don't learn a thing. If I could get some help I really appreciate it!! Hell, I'd even pay for it!!

Here's the background: I'm an IT guy (25 years) with extensive DOS experience but very limited Unix/Linux experience. All I really want is to expand the HD to it full potential and be able to FTP into the box.

I have a Toshiba SD-H400 that I hacked a couple of years ago using sleeper (what a great product for the mindless!!) and it's been purring along using 5.2 whatever until the guide stopped working. As far as I can tell I needed to take the newest upgrade (7.2) and re-hack.

After reading A LOT here's what I was able to figure out:

I re-installed my original drive and let it take 7.2. Then used MFS tools to make a duplicate back to my old hard drive (works fine in TIVO).

Then I need to install a Killhdinitrd'd kernel 3.1.5 from the ptvupgrade (enhanced cd) to the tivo and modify the bootpage.

Do something with the iptables and netfilter.

Install a Toshiba patch.

Install an rc-editor and modify some stuff and finally install an FTP program (which one?).

Am I close? Are there ANY walkthroughs? Any very basic threads? Remember I don't understand the Linux command structure so don't just tell me to dd the kernel as I have no clue what you're talking about!!

Any help would be much appreciated! For the right amount of $$'s, hell I'll send you my drive and let you do it. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks again!

Mike

We do not support the theft of satellite services here. I recommend leaving that out of your discussions, as you wont receive much help here once you bring that up.

I use the Pansat for KU open air only, not DBS. I subscribe to DTV.

Hey harry,
I can feel you on this one, I am also an IT guy and this forum seemed a little overwhelming at first. But if you make a sincere effort to search for stuff before you ask, most will be willing to help. My advantage was my linux experience, though. I finally got all of my stuff working this week on a series 2 Philips.

I think I started here:
http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/
For upgrading the drive

Then here:
http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37058
For the hacking stuff.

I didn't use any superpatches or all-in-one iso's. I did each hack seperately so that it could be customized for my box, and so that I understood what was going on. I recommend doing this. I would also recommend gaining a basic knowledge of linux, you work in IT so it shouldn't be too hard. This is almost required for understanding the nuts-and-bolts of a tivo.

Happy tivoing

Oops...Forgot to mention I use tivoftpd for ftp server
