OK. So I have been reading about the drama over new access cards and am not sure I completely understand the ins and outs.

I have two DSR6000s and a non-Tivo Philips receiver. All have P4 cards.

I just bought a DSR7000 from weaknees for $35. No card, no HDs.

What is going to be the best route for me to get a card working for the DSR7000?

I am willing to lose the non-Tivo receiver.

My brother is thinking of going the same route but he doesn't have a subbed card to use. I have an old receiver on a deactivated account that has a P4 card in it. Can he use that?

Thanks!!

Call TiVo and tell them you're replacing the non-TiVo Philips with a DVR reciever. They'll need the card number and the serial number from the one you're activating. I just did this last weekend myself (replaced a basic Hughes with a DSR7000) and it only took one phone call. I've also read that you can do it on the automated phone line with code 722.

What about using my other old card for my brother?

Pretty sure you can transfer equipment, but not the access card. Could be wrong about that since it's a close family member, but I think the access card gets locked to the account that originally activates it. If in doubt, call DTV.

Depends on WHO you get at DTV..I just bought a DSR704 off of Ebay with the card from someone in OH...Got the unit in yesterday, called DTV, gave them the card number of the card in the unit...and they activated it...
