DSR6000 as stand alone?

Hey yall, I am sure this has been asked but I can't find it. I have an old dsr6000 that has been sitting for a few years. I am just wondering if I can use it with cable as a stand alone. It has 3.1? on it right now and I have the original drive which has never been used. I really just want to pause rewind, etc. don't really need the guide or real recording options. Thanks,

DTivo units do not have an MPEG encoder (the signal comes from the satellite already as an MPEG stream, so it's stored like that, and basically the unit only has a decoder), so there's no way you chould use it to record of cable (besides other technical roadblocks).
