I have read alot in the forum and i know that the new Tivo boxes can't be hacked without a prom installed. So i have been on E-bay looking for a Tivo Standalone box Model # TCD24004A Not Hacked , I want to hack it myself. From what i have read this seems to be the one to get, even though its been out for awhile now. What do you guys think? any suggestions?
Thanks
Jamie

I'd guess around $50 is a fair price.

I've paid up to about $80 on my TCD240 units from ebay. I now have 4 such units. My series 2.5 is gathering dust in its box because of the PROM issue. Remember, shipping is probably going to run another $15-20. My personal opinion is that anything under about $100 is still an acceptable deal, and certainly what I would pay (see my justification below). With Tivo selling new units at $50 (contract subscription extra) I imagine the going price for the hardware has dropped.
Considering that either hiring the PROM mod done on a series 2.5 or buying the equipment to do it yourself will likely cost at least $50, probably more. I know I'm all thumbs with electronics soldering. The extra cash spent on a TCD240 model (with which you can avoid hardware mods) is probably worthwhile.
