I currently have a SA 540XX upgraded to a 250GB hard drive.

I'm thinking of switching over to an older SA 240XX box so that I can do some more advanced hacks without messing with the PROM on my 540XX.

My question: Can I simply move the harddrive from my 540XX to a 240XX and preserve my recordings, settings, etc?

If not, what is involved in doing so successfully?

(not interested in moving my subscription mind you, I know that doing that is more difficult and less legal)

I'm guessing that this issue has come up before, but I haven't been able to find it specifically dealt with in the forums or newbie guides. I apologize if I overlooked something obvious, feel free to slap my wrists, and point me to an existing thread.

My question: Can I simply move the harddrive from my 540XX to a 240XX and preserve my recordings, settings, etc?No. A 540 software image will not work in a 240.

If you want to preserve your recordings, you could pull them all off to your PC with TTG, then reinsert them onto the 240. This is likely to take a while given TTG performance.

Ah well. It was just wishful thinking, I suppose. Thank you so much for your response, I appreciate it.

I'm on the mac so TTG is not really a convenient option for me. That's why I want to hack it.

I'll probably just suck it up and lose my recordings. Not such a big deal really.

Another option is to MRV the shows from one tivo to the other, but I supposed you'd have to have both sub'ed at the same time to do that.
