Iíve spent about a week reading and trying to get Tivoserver to support avi files with no luck. I keep getting this message:

Transcode hasn't started properly... killing pids: 3852 3876 3908
Main thread hung, writing to pipe to release
Transcode didn't supply full header

I have followed this process below to set up Tivoserver. I start it in Cygwin using /usr/src/tivoserver/tivoserver and TY files work just fine. I believe my problem is in the ffmpeg and mjpegtools process because I cannot start ffmpeg at a bash prompt (command not found). I have also not made any modifications to the PATH (mostly because Iím not sure what would changes need to be made).

Should I have a make after the .configure in the ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1 process?
Should I have the make in the mplex folder of the tymplex-build-win or the mjpegtools-1.6.2 folder (or both) during the mjpegtools process?
Should I have a .configure in the mjpegtools process?
Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Steps I have used to install Tivoserver:

Download and install Cygwin (with devel and wget)
Start Cygwin
cd /usr/src

copy libxml2-2.6.20.tar.gz into that directory
tar xzvf libxml2-2.6.20.tar.gz
cd libxml2-2.6.20
make all
make install
make clean

cd /usr/src
copy ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1.tar.gz into that directory
tar xzvf ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1.tar.gz
cd ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1
./configure --enable-pthreads --enable-vorbis --enable-libogg --enable-a52 --enable-pp --enable-gpl --extra-cflags="-march=pentium4 -I/usr/local/include/" --extra-ldflags="-L/usr/local/lib" --disable-v4l --disable-dv1394 --disable-ffplay --disable-ffserver --disable-vhook

cd /usr/src
copy mjpegtools-1.6.2.tar.gz into that directory
tar xzvf mjpegtools-1.6.2.tar.gz
cd mjpegtools-1.6.2
copy tymplex1.2.patch.txt into that directory
patch -p1 < tymplex1.2.patch.txt
copy the unzipped tymplex-build-win folder into the mjpegtools-1.6.2 directory
cd tymplex-build-win
cd mplex

cd /usr/src
copy tivoserver-0.3.gz into that directory
tar xzvf tivoserver-0.3.gz
cd tivoserver
make clean

Problem solved. I updated to Tivoserver 0.4 - no cygwin required (just the dll). Binary file works great as-is.
