This may have been covered before, but let me ask anyway because I cant find a solution. My Tivo does not work anymore, the HD is still ok. They are no longer selling Directivos in my area so I had to get an R15, which sucks by the way. I have removed my tivo HD. I would like to add the drive to either my Linux or windows PC and copy the recordings directly from HD to HD. I can not do this via a network because my tivo box is dead. Is there a way to do a HD to HD copy of the recordings? Thanks for the help.

Yes, it's possible, if you had previously hacked the TiVo to disable encryption, otherwise you are out of luck.

Check out the 'Direct extraction from a Tivo Drive on a PC' sticky thread in this forum.

That sucks! The HD has never been touched until now. Is there no other way?

Your best bet would be to see if you can revive the Tivo and get it working again. If you're sure the HD is OK then let us know what the symptoms are and perhaps we can help. We'll need the make, model, and OS version and a list of any hacks you may have installed.
