I've just brought a Tivo Series 1(UK) of Fleebay. It has a Silicon Dust Cache Card installed - I'm going thru the setup call it tries to connect but i keep getting 'Failed, number unavailable' - I've tried different modem cables, different phone line - all the normal stuff but still no joy - Also tried connecting it via my router but nothing

I'm a newbie so im unsure what could be wrong - Can any1 help????

On the U.S. based tivos, to force a network (TCP/IP) call you have to do omething like put in a phone number of ,#401 or something. Since you mentioned the cache card, I'm assuming it also has ethernet.

Also, I recall that the series-1 units were rather notorious for failing modems. You could try an external modem on the serial port and see if that works.

Can't you run fakecall and skip the whole first call anyway?

On a SA Tivo, you need the calls to get guide data, etc.

I ran fakecall on my new HR10-250 and it is still trying to make the inital call. Since I do not have a land line how can I skip this step?

Thanks.

On earlier software versions you could run fakecall, then reboot, and it would think the initial call had been made. I don't know if it will work on the HR10-250. There have also been reports that a call to DirecTV and talking to a level 2 CSR will solve the problem.
