Feeling stupid

OK, I have one Tivo set up with all the bells and whistles. I am now doing #2. I have Tivoweb194 up and running and I want to add a few modules. When trying to add a directory in /ptvupgrade/tivoweb194 I get the following:
Cannot create directory Read Only File Sysem.
I do not know too much about the unix commands but I have search for the answer and tried several options...no success. Now what?

mount -o remount,rw / <-- enables writing

then when done

mount -o remouint,ro / <-- disables writing (Read Only)
