My var directory was at 100 capacity.. when I erased the log and extra files then ran e2fsck -y /dev/hda9 I manage to get it down to 98%. I was trying to copy the slices so I could upgrade to 6.2 but don't have enough space. Is there something someone can suggest? Please help.

My /var is about 128MB, 'df' shows:
/dev/hda9 126911 17881 102477 15% /var
So this indicates my /var is using about 18MB. If your's is more than that you have other files to delete. Start looking at the directories for whatever is using your space and remove those.

Ouch, how many 'slices' are you keeping on there, for it to be at 98%?
If you've still got the slice files on your computer you could always just rm -rf /var and FTP the slice files back again. Also check the mfs_ftp cache and try deleting all that stuff.
*EDIT: WARNING rm -rf /var will delete everything in /var directory.

Narf, I'm not sure he'd really want to do that, would he? Removing EVERYTHING in /var?

Thanks, I edited a warning in my above post. The point being, if you have backups of everything already on the PC (including your hacks) blowing away /var should certainly free up the 98%. I'd suspect a long forgetten log directory hidden away someplace.

I came home today and check my var directory and it was at 10%. All the var directory was gone. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it.
happy new year to all.

I suspect your tivo rebooted and finding the /var directory full, decided to wipe it away by itself.

Time to reload hacks. Hope you had a backup.
I had the same problem and got it fixed. Take a look at this link:http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46388. I know that you do not have that problem anymore due to the wipe of var but could be useful in the future

Finally got 6.2 on my Tivo. It was a lot of work. After the first upgrade to 4.01b I did not follow the forum as often as I used to as a result I felt behind on what was going on. After some heavy reading (at work) I am now back on top of things and was able to have version 6.2 working very well. My thanks to everyone for their help. Now I can go back playing World of Warcraft.
