View Full Version : Tickets issued?!

Just finished up with hacking two philips units running 6.2. I have enabled MRV, backported usb, all-in-one and tytool installed
My question is about some information that I am seeing on the system info screen. It is telling me that there have been tickets issued and they will expire in about 6 months. I never hooked the boxes up to a phone and I have the following in my rc.sysinit.author file which I understood gave a false gateway to essentially block connection via the internet:
route add -host 204.176.49.2 gw 127.0.0.1
route add -net 204.176.49.0 gw 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
An example of the ticket statement is here (note the dates are past because I pasted from the previous post).
issued Friday June,3rd 2005
days valid 180
service level 1 A
sl 1 expiration Wednesday November 30,2005
service level 2
sl2 expiration Wednesday November 30,2005
service level 3 A
behavior setidentsring default
current expiration date 13118
First part of the question is have I missed something with respect to allowing the box to call home via the internet? There is plenty of talk about people who have let their boxes call in and as a result the tickets were issued.
Second, are these a problem and what do I have to do to get rid of them?
After reading it looks like there are two methods that have resolved this.
a.) clear and delete – which is not an option at this point in time due to saved recordings
b.) running a modified set_mrv_name_67.tcl with line 39 to include SP_4|SP_5
Is there any other way to get rid of them??
Any help is appreciated. If this has already been answered, if someone could just point me in the right direction that would also be appreciated.

I just did:
b.) running a modified set_mrv_name_67.tcl with line 39 to include SP_4|SP_5
It got rid of the expiration certificates. HMO still works fine.
It also temporarily got rid of the Best Buy / Nikon links under Music and Photos. However, they came back when the S2 connected to the internet (through router). The expiration certificates did not come back.
From the reading I did, those certificates were issued when your unit connected to tivo servers through the internet (not the dial up, but rather through the network link). Those certificates were issued on D* units.

If the "route -add" statement in my rc.sysinit.author statement didn't block it from making the connection to tivo how do I go about making sure this doesn't happen again?? The way I see it running the set mrv script is not getting to the root of the problem and only a temporary fix. If the box can still connect to the tivo servers, this could potentially happen again.

Don't know the answer. If you find out, please post it.
I'm going to try to configure my router to block the S2 from accessing the net. I've notice that if I do a simple block all connections with the Netgear router, the HMO stops working. I'll try to figure out what ports are going out to the net and block just those.

From what I have read, it sounds like most people have success with blocking port 80 (which is used for internet access) but most people were not sure if that was a 100% fix. I have seen in multiple post and places that the "route -add" in the .author file works, that is why when I saw the tickets I was surprised.
When I get home I am going to try doing a clear and delete on the one new box with no recordings. If that works, i can transfer over my recordings from one box to another, c & d and then transfer back. If it work it will make me feel more comfortable that it was a internal software generated ticket versus a tivo home base generated ticket. It will be a pita but not sure what else to do. Either nobody knows what to do or they are unwilling to help since there are 51 views and you are the only one to respond.

When I ran the "running a modified set_mrv_name_67.tcl with line 39 to include SP_4|SP_5", it got rid of the certificates and the certificates did not return when it connected to the internet. I don't think you need to do a clear and delete.
The only thing that came back was the Best Buy / Nikon link.
The only reason I'm looking to block net access is to keep those links from re-appearing under Music and PHotos.
** EDIT
Oh, I just realized I made one other change. I modified a file to remove the call to DNS. I don't have it in front of me, but when I get home I'll post exactly what file and what modification I made. The purpose was to prevent the S2 from using it's DNS. Thinking out loud, maybe that's why the certificates did not come back - though I'm not sure. If the S2 went on the net looking for tivo.com - my isp dns server would have looked it up. However, if the S2 will not try to access the net without an actual IP octlet, maybe it stopped it.
Sorry for the rambling. Latter I'll post the very simple edit. You could try the modified set_mrv_name_67 script again and make this edit and see if the certificates don't come back. It'll take only 2 minutes and could avoid the time for a clear and delete.

Okay, looked at the log of what I did and this is how I got rid of certificates and got rid of the delay in the now playing list appearing:
1) Ran the modified set_mrv_name_67 script. Took the normal script and made the change LanMan noted here at DDB (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/printthread.php?t=43986) (Its the last post on that page). Ran that script and it removed the Certificates and the Best Buy / Nikon links from Music and Photos.
(When the S2 connected to the internet though the router, the Certificates did not come back. The Best Buy / Nikon links did.)
2) Got rid of the delay in the now playing list by modifying: /etc/nsswitch.conf file using the instructions found on post #37 here at Tivo Community Forums (http://tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=3521709&&post3521709). Basically, I removed "dns" from ""hosts: files dns" What was left was "hosts: files"
3) Finally got rid of Best Buy / Nikon links by assigning Static IP to the S2 and have my router block that IP from ever accessing the internet.
Now, have no Certificates, no Best Buy / Nikon links and no delay at all in the now playing list showing.

I too neglected to anticipate my DTivo phoning home over the internet, and got tickets issued. (I have yet to check whether any HMO works, as this is my only hacked unit at this time.)
I then added the routes to rc.sysinit.author; I ran the suggested modified set_mrv_name_67.tcl. Checked my hosts file, but it contains no line that says "hosts:" or "dns" or anything of the sort - it has only one line:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
The keys disappeared from State/Keyring, and BB/Nikon are gone. But the tickets, listed in System Information, remain.
Oddly, the tickets have odd information, which, IIRC, was the data that existed before I tried any of the above:
Issued: Thursday, December 31, 1969
Days Valid: 0
ServiceLevel 1: A
SL 1 Expiration: Thursday, December 31, 1969
ServiceLevel 2: A
SL 2 Expiration: Thursday, December 31, 1969
ServiceLevel 3: A
BehaviorSetIdentString: Combo Full Service
CurrentExpirationDate: 0
Have I completely jacked this up? Do I have to do a C&DE?

Marky,
You did it okay. The Certificates are gone. That's exactly what I got also after running the modified set_mrv_name_67 script.
Before running the modified script info showed Certificate issue date of December 28, 2005 and expiration date of June 28, 2005. I got the exact same December 31, 1969 date (and I ran the modified script on 12/28 and not 12/31).
I did not modify the hosts file. I modified - /etc/nsswitch.conf - changing the line that read: "hosts: files dns" to "hosts: files". I read there was a delay in the now playing list if the internet connection was blocked. I read changing that file resulted in the delay disappearing. For me it worked, I have my router configured to block the tivo ip from the net and the now playing list instantly appears.

D'OH! I should learn to read better. Thanks.

I'll be giving this a try shortly. My laggy Now Playing List is driving me nuts.
