I just got a DSR 6000 and it is very slow to change chanels. It is as slow as my first generation RCA DSS receiver.

It is running 2.0.001.001 software. Will it get any faster with software updates.

I'm thinking about returning it. Are other recievers faster?

It is normally a bit slower at changing the channels than a normal receiver, but not much.

What you are experiencing right now is the TiVo tying to receieve and index enough guide data to fill up two weeks worth. This only happens when you first connect the TiVo, and only lasts for a few days max.

Also, it has been said that the 2.5 software is faster than other versions.

Some of the remotes are bad. Call Philp and they will send you a new one for free!

Well, the guide speed can be improved significantly by going to 2.01 or 2.5 software -- there is a known bug in 2.00 which is slooow guide syndrome. There are also bad remotes out there as somebody else mentioned.

The "channel changing" lag per se though is not likely to change with software updates. It will always be somewhat slower than channel changing on a pure DirecTV unit. Which is always slower than channel changing on my standard cable service running straight into my TV. :)

However, it's about 10 times faster than SA Tivo + Digital Cable box (I had this setup for a while, it's prolley similar to SA Tivo + DTV IR). The delay there is intolerable. With my DTivo I do not really notice the channel changing lag, and find it is no more than a second. Too slow to "skim" up and down with the channel up/down buttons through more than a few channels. So either put it in "Favorites" mode so there's only a few channels to skim through (I have about 10) or use the damned guide, that's what it's there for (you can skim through a whole bunch of channels much more efficiently).

Anyway, YMMV but I find watching TV to be a religious and wholly new experience with my DTivo and you'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands (or turn off the H stream, god forbid) to get it away from me. And I'm still running 2.00 (using the Tivo guide mode to reduce guide browsing slowness).

Good point compugeek.

The DTV guide is dog slow. (I believe that it's there just so TiVo conforms to some DTV standard.) Use the TiVo guide.

I'm betting he has a bad remote, most of the DSR6000's that people have been buying lately have been shipping with the bad remote. I'd say this is especially true since he got a box with 2.0.0 on it. Call TiVo and get a replacement remote, it could take a week or so but you'll definitely see an improvement with a good remote.

Has anyone who tests;) their Dtivo gotten a replacement remote? I only learnt of this yesterday, and have been unable to call Philips because of Turkey day.

Just wondering....

Do you have to subscribe to TIVO?

I read from the other board that you need to call
TIVO first and if you're a member, they will give
you a part number to give on a call to Philips.

Is this correct? Can you just call Philips?

Wow, I just got some philips dsr6k's and it was but slow, saw this thread and the remote problems. Grabbed my remote from my Hughes GXCEBOT and it was 10x faster. (remote works on either systems)... Good to know there is a problem. Thanks for the heads up guys...
