Hello all,

Thanks to the wonderful input I have gotten from everyone on what system to buy, I am about to grab me a Phillips DirecTivo. Will be getting it this weekend. And I think from what I gather I have to have a serial cable to do anything so I am going to try and get one of those on order asap. So, my question is, after I open this thing out of the box, what are my first steps on what I need to do? I imagine for the price I will definately have to activate the card. So do I go ahead and hook it all up and plug the phone line in and call DTV to do that? Will that have any effect on the Tivo if I am not selecting to do anything with Tivo yet? If not and once I get the card activated and have signal. What next? I have read posts here and there and see about updating software etc. But just haven't found the right posts yet I guess but need to know what utilities I might need to grab or where to get this ISO that people are using. etc.. I just don't want to do anything in the wrong order. Do I updated if not already to v2.5 of the software first with a clean image and see if I am still working regular or go ahead do do whatever the hack is? hehe see where I am going, would just like to know what steps I should follow with a new out of the box unit.

thanks for any help.

Once you figured out what you're doing to do regarding service and whatnot, the first step to do is to *BACKUP* the hard drive if you're going to mess around with it.

Otherwise, you'd be searching the forums trying to get a working backup image...

Yeah downloaded the iso last night so think I can do that one right out of the box. And any tips on the next step? Thought about trying to get ahold of that 2.5Xtreme software and trying it. Anyone know much about it?
