Problems with Terminal Access

When using HyperTerminal Sending the getprom program over to the tivo using zmodem , I cant see where Iam connected when I start it up.


What should I see on the screen?

Its just a blank screen.

I get the same thing in Tara Term Pro as well...

Do not use Z-Modem with Crash recovery.....upload/download with just plain ol Z-Modem

I did tried ZModem (not the Z-Modem with Crash recovery), but It does not see the Tivo I dont think.


I run the terminal program but dont see anything that shows a connection at all....

I made the cable thats goes to the Serial port on the Tivo

I cut a speaker cable in half that was made to plug the speakers into a sound card on a PC.

I cut a serial cable in half that had DB9 connectors on both ends.
I made the Pinout as follows

Tip to Pin2
Middle to Pin3
Sleeve to Pin5

after several attemps I swapped out Pin 2 and 3, and that made no difference neither...

Iam guessing that I should see something on the screen as soon as I open up Hyperterminal or Tara Term.

My other thought is that when I restored Cyberdudes 2.01 Image, that one of the files did not take very well (Maybe Chattr?). The Tivo does work now and I can record with the 2.01 Image on it. I really want to get 2.5 going...

anyone have any ideals here?

make sure you're plugged into the serial and not the IR port (*duh* I know..) shut down the tivo, fire up tera term or w/e and tell it to connect, turn on the tivo, a little into the second boot screen you should get a BASH# prompt, might have to tap enter every few seconds just in case, in 2.01 that was the only way it'd work for me. if you're in 2.5 maybe you editied the wrong rc.sysinit (wrong partition?)

I have a tvtuner board, so it's REALLY REALLY REALLY nice to watch what the tivo is doing while running tera term :)

I have the 2.01 image right now, not the 2.5

Your saying to keep hitting enter in the Tara Term or Tivo while its booting? Iam guessing you mean in the Tara Term

What is a TV Tuner board?

I have enough electronic stuff, was wondering if this is something I have as well :)
