I upgraded the prom and left the receiver running. I had a good checksum and TV was playing. Then I left for a few hours and came back and nothing was on the TV. I don't evenhave a green power LED on the front. I upgraded the image and then cleared. The receiver still will not boot. I just get a White rectangle on the TV screen when I power the recveiver. That is it.
The HD is still getting power. My Power supply is not blown.
Any ideas on what to do. I still have my origional A disk. I have been doing all of this on my backup.
Thanks

That does not sound good. Try and download another image and see if it's just the drive. If it's the chip...
...How's your SMT soldering skills? :(

More info please..
1) This a Tivo or DTivo - model??
2) Upgraded prom - with what? What version of software was running before the upgrade, and when it went out? Did it reboot before going out? Any smoke - smell?? Little black marks on the motherboard??
3) You upgraded image - to what? From what?
4) Then "cleared"? What does this mean? What did you "clear"? Was the drive attached to a PC - or the Tivo? How did you "clear"?
Unplug hard drive and IDE cable - power up. Do you get "Powering Up" on the screen?? You should get this even without a drive attached - but it will stay there.
Check the little white ribbon cable from the power supply to the motherboard. Is it fully seated? Pull it out from both ends and reseat. Push firmly!
Check the ribbon cable from the faceplate to the mother board. Reseat if necessary.

it sounds to me like you flashed the prom and left the IRD running 2.0 or 2.01, if this is the case no shit it won't boot :)
if you're running 2.5 and it's not booting that's a different story

** ALL I get is a white and black flashing screen. I tried all video outputs and also tried on other TV.
Check the little white ribbon cable from the power supply to the motherboard. Is it fully seated? Pull it out from both ends and reseat. Push firmly!
***Reseated all ribbon cables. Also replaced HD cable
Check the ribbon cable from the faceplate to the mother board. Reseat if necessary.
***Did that
I am baffled. I imagine it is gone :(
All was working fine with FIXUP on 2.01 before I upgraded Prom.

I DD'd the 6 parition and still the same. I don't even sound like Disk A is starting to turn on. I also put my original A disk which is running 2.01 and it also sound like the drive isn't being accessed for any information.

So you *never* see "Powering Up". I guess you're f**ked. Drink heavily. Restore your original backup. Put everything back together as best you can. Replace the warranty label as best you can. Hope the retailer / service center is kind. Worked for me when my test unit started pixellating badly. Best Buy honored warranty with broken seal - no questions asked.
Or...
If you are *skilled* in SMT soldering - or work where the tools and skills are in supply - or know someone who works in an SMT assembly shop - have the flash chip removed. Reburn in a programmer. Instead of resoldering the chip back on, get a socket to solder on instead.
Or...
If you're familiar with JTAG - and have access to the software tools, search the Tivo boards (try AVS, etc) to see where to solder a JTAG i'face to the board. You should be able to reflash via JTAG.
Do you remember which prom image you flashed? Can you post it - and label it BAD FLASH - so other don't try it. BubbaJ's hack applies to prom v2.0.5 - NTSC. I'll verify that your prom.bin was correct/bad.
You watched the flash process - and everything appeared OK - correct? You said it came back with good checksum.
And... you *could* have an unrelated hardware failure.

Thanks Guys. Might have been a hardware failure. Fortunately I replaced the origional "A" disk and gently replaced the warranty sticker and swapped for a new box today.
Maybe I'll have better luck next time.
