Guys, I'm sorry but I have been *overwhelmed* with requests for this and I'm filling them as fast as I can! (It's slowed down a little this morning --- but that's 'cause my mailbox is full and won't take any more requests... ;o)

ANYWAY, until this starts getting spread to various ftp sites I'm posting an alternative method of downloading the file that should work... I have been using the IBP system to send the .ISOs to everyone, so the ideal occurs that if I would just post a link here then *everyone* can go grab the same file without me re-posting it to each individual. So if you click on the attachment below and download the .zip file which simply contains an html of the IBP download page. When you click on the link in that page you get the file just like I had sent it to you directly!

If you have an ftp site, please download the file and post your ftp link to it back in this thread, so others can obtain it as well...

File size is about 150MB or so, so downloading from this IBP link takes about 15 minutes via cable... (At an average about 200KBs.)

Oh, this is the version for the DSR6000 with self-booting .ISO. I've been too busy to post the other versions yet, but if this ideal works out I will post links to them in this thread as well...

*** UPDATE *** Trying to confirm this myself but I have gotten a msg that claims the zip file won't unzip, so I'm removing the link until I verify a good download -- shouldn't be long...

Does anyone here use this ibp mail client?

Understand they are changing a bit to exnode and all but does it send as .zip files from thier? Hows this puppy work! Someone speak up!

I don't believe Harry is going to be giving up his magic Xtreme file soon anyway, be nice to know the whole bit with this
IB asworthlessas P thing at any rate!

Last but surely not least someone just do the quick and easy workaround and upload it to a FTP/SITE please. That work for everyone? Ideas?

Seems young Harry Potter is too busy with the Movie Premier to come up with the elusive prom file...

So does anyone have a good download site for the 2.5Xtreme ISO image?

Sorry, Chance. I was talking about the old way of making the modifications. I FINALLY got that to work after I got the bash prompt to appear.

Too bad we cant get the image on morpheus or some other peer-to-peer file sharing system. It would take the burden off of a ftp site and would only download faster once more people have it. It's pretty cool how it does dowload pooling to increase speed.

Anyway... looking anxiously forward to trying the hack.

It looks like that server is converting the file to some other format before sending (looking at it with ultraedit). Other zip files are hex, this one is decimal only.

yeah I am not familiar with ibp yet eirther...it may have just spanned the file being so large ya think? I know the initial client whose email was inputed gets a link sent to them then CGI link verified on servers and fiel sent, etc .

I did send my virgin 2.0 dsr6k backup many many times last week using it but no one ever did forward a public link or anything so have no idea what you receive? Thought if left blank it would just revert to public link as I sent like that as well?

No one did seem to get around to posting that file on an ftp either come to think of it! Many people used/using it I know, I did upload it to abs but dunno if they ever made accessible, etc
ah well......

I helped with IBP layout and server design. I know its not f_ing the files. Ive used in now 2 years with out problems. Good luck and thanks for useing it. Its a great system and has more bandwidth and storge then they know what to do with. You'd be shocked at the size of the files that float around on that network. If someone gets me the file I will post it at our colo gonesilent.com

If someone wants to upload it to this site, there is 15 megs of unused Sprint bandwidth. I can leave it up unlimited until monday, but would probably have to put an access list to limit downloads to 3 megs or so after that.

It IS NOT there now. Someone needs to upload it first! This is an FTP site, you need to use a FTP client or FTP from your browser.

15 megs of bandwidth, couple hundred gigs of storage I think. I put the 2.5 hacked image I had out there. This is NOT the extreme image, but I sure would like to have it :-)

Ye of little faith...

There were a couple of folks who had downloaded the original, but it was a corrupted zip file as Surgeon had noted. It appears that this one is gold, so I guess that Surgeon will have the last laugh. Attitudes like that are what are driving the talent from the DSS and TiVO scene :(

Thanks for your persistance Surgeon - it is appreciated!

thnx surgeon.

I didnt think someone would risk dislike or similiar just to F*ck with people.

I cannot get a bash prompt to work for the life of me. Had 2.0 installed nicely. Hopefully this will help a lil.

Thanx again

Well I downloaded the xtreme image (which unziped fine), burned the ISO, and then booted into xtreme.

Everything seemed to go just fine. It wrote the HD image, did the tivomad, and seemed to be ok.

I then put the 40GB WD drive in my Tivo, and booted. After a few minutes it said Tivo is updating your software. After a few minutes it rebooted again.

Now it's stuck in an infinite reboot on the "Welcome. Powering up..." screen. It will sit there for about a minute or two, then reboot.

What's wrong? The xtreme directions seemed easy, and everythign went ok until the last reboot after the Tivo software update.

Originally this DTivo had 2.0.

Do you need to do the edit -bootparms thing for the WD drive?

I was able to download the file and burn it to a cd, but received an error while restoring the image to my HDD. The message was something like "error decompressing file (99%) aborted". I repeated the procedure again with the same result. I stuck the drive back in my DTiVo and it seems to work fine. Anybody else have this problem?

There were a few who reported the same error, but that the units came up running fine.

You should be good to go...

Folks,

If I use Surgeon's latest 2.5Xtreme upgrade on a blank hard drive, install that in my DTiVo, get it running, and then put my current 2.5 drives with content back in the DTiVo, will I keep my content and have a hackable DTiVo? I'm only interested in networking the box so that I can archive content off of the TiVo to my PC.

Thanks for any help on this. I don't want to lose my content (the whole point of this particular upgrade), but taking this easier path to getting the prom flashed seems to make sense.

FWIW: I was about to do things the hard way when Surgeon posted his latest stuff. Good work Surgeon!

As an alternative, I was going to install 2.0 on a blank drive, get a bash prompt, flash the prom, put my 2.5 drives back in the DTiVo, get a bash prompt, install the network, and do archiving from there. Does this sound sensible?

I have the phillips dsr6k running just great with version 2.01xx (1 tuner) and no phone line ( i only have cellular)

Question:

Can i go buy a NEW hard drive, hook it to the PC, use 25xtreme cd on it, then just replace the drive in dtivo unit?
(and not use original 40 gig at all)

?

TIA,
K

Yes you can. That's exactly what I did.

I downloaded Xtreme2.5 and installed it on my Sony T-60 with no problem(Except I have to use a Phillips remote). It does everything automatically, even update the EEProm. Surgeon did fine work on it, and just because tonz of people download it and take out the server isn't surgeon's fault. Besides if you look around it isn't hard to find.
