DSR6000 vs Hughes vs Sony T60

O.K., I am currently replacing my VERY old receiver and would like some feedback on which one to get. Money is no object, I just want to make sure I get the RIGHT one.

It seems from this forum that the DSR6000 is the most popular while the Hughes and Sony are newer??? I'm looking around all over the net and don't seem to get any hard specs.

Which one is the best for modifying? Which one has the most features? Which one is capable of Dolby 5.1? Do they all have the card slot in the back? Do they all have dual tuners? etc.

All 3 are exactly the same electronics inside the box.

You must decide if you like the Sony style Remote or the Original
Tivo Peanut Style remote.

And Then pick your color. Sony=Silver, Philips=Black, Hughes=Silver.

All other specs are the same. Dolby 5.1 via Optical, Card slot in Back, Dual Tuners, Etc.

The reason for the Popularity of the Philips is that CC has them for $99.00. You must authorize the card in the unit within 90 days or be charged $200.00, It can be an add on to your exsisting subscription or a new sub. No time limit as to how long it is authorized.

Uh... If they're all the same then why such a difference in price? The Sony seems WAY more expense. Is it just brand name?

If there is no difference then I'm just going with the Philips...? It seems to be the most popular in terms of modifying.

Is there anywhere I can get it WITHOUT having to subscribe? There has to be some web-site somewhere that will just sell me the darn thing and ship it to my home.

Just paying for a Name. They are 100% identical.

I personally wouldn't have a sony product in my home. ( Except I got 2 T-60's open box for less than 100.00 each. )

I like the Phillips Because they are Black and Matches my HT stuff better. So I have 2 of them also.


Don't know where to get them without a Sub, Check EBay.

I don't know for sure, but American Satellite sells the Phillips DTiVos for $99. They make no mention of $200 activation on the website, but I can't say for sure this is the case. You may want to give them a call. Let us know if you end up getting one without the activation agreement...

AFAIK the cheapest place to get a DSR6000 WITH activation is:

new activation:
Ebay Permenant Seller: minidishes.tv 39.99 for dsr6000 + dish + install kit.

existing directv customer:
Ebay Permenant Seller: minidishes.tv 74.99 for dsr6000.

WITHOUT Activation:
????????????????
