I am not entirely new to the hacking scene. I upgraded two stand alone tivos so do have some knowledge of the procedure.
I'm not all that interested in adding more storage space, that I can do on my own.
I'm looking for direction or assistance in upgrading my tivo and being able to have a free subscription.
Also, need advice on if it is safe to use test card with the machine.
I would appreciate any info one could supply. Looks like you all do great work. Feel free to email me or post rihgt here.
Thanks

Come on guys ..I DID THE READING.
I have never encountered such an unhelpful forum. Are we in the cause or not. I'm not a total newbie..but other than restoring images and adding dirves I have not done anything with tivo such as getting free subscription. Post me a private, email me the info.. just tell me something.
ALL THIS SECRECY IS GETTING MUNDANE, we're here to help or hinder?

Welcome to the forum and patience is a virtue and a little more info would be helpful.
I assume you have a DirecTiVo and want v2.5 software. Search this forum for a download of step-by-step instructions by Neutronflux and the v2.5Xtreme by surgeon. A test card is never completely safe from an ecm and always keep the phone line unplugged.

The fixup02c script is what your looking for. It will modify the database to make the TiVo think it has called in. Everything you seek has been discussed here. I've narrowed it down for you. If you still can't find what your looking for I'd be happy to help, but I rather not repeat everything when it's readily available.
I don't think your gonna get any sympathy responding the way you did. Believe me, there is no secrecy on this board (except for BubbaJ and his CAM secrets :) ). I'd bet you didnt get a quick response because this is old news which can be found with a little effort.

Thank you for the reply..
I was just feeling that for someone wanting to learn no guidance was given. I don't want a hand to hold, but do need some direction.
I have the 2.5extreme image thing down pat as I ahve done image backups with my standalones..
I am concerned about this fixup02c bit and how to apply it. I have searched for a how to but ahve not had any luck in doing so. SOrry to be a pest..just searching for some good information.
Also, does anyone know if you have to use the cd to back up the image or can I use my floppy disks and just use the mfstool utility program?
you might want to give this thread a read.

If you are going to be using the 25Xtreme disk then the above is somewhat a mute point.
Shouldnt have any problems with a test card as long as the phone line isnt hooked up. Dont let it call in ever with a test card, whether you have the card pulled or not, the log can show what channels you have been watching. Unless you edit the log.
figure out what you have and what you want to do and then go from there.
Many people to help along the way and dont be afraid to use this link.

What if you comp won't boot the cd on startup.. is there an option to perhaps run it from the hardrive in computer and mfstools or from a floppy disk?

You don't have to use the CD to boot. Boot with the floppy boot disk with MFSTools available and mount the CDROM. Then you can use MFSTools with the backup from the CD.
The fixup script is run from a BASH prompt over a running TiVo. There are threads describing how to automatically run the script. This way it is run every time the TiVo tries to call home, and the modifications report back to TiVo that the call was successful.

The fixup script is not needed if you use v2.5Xtreme, it is preloaded if you don't have a TiVo sub. And if you don't boot from the CD you won't get the benefit of the build logic in v2.5Xtreme like TiVomad stuff, etc. See my proposal here ===> http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=10716#post10716
and tell me what you think.
Thanks
