I am having a very interesting problem going from 7.2 to 7.2.1
I have a SA Series 2 TCD240008A (hacked) I was running a 3.1.5 killhdinitrd'd kernel on 7.2.0 software with partition 7 as the root. All worked fine, telnet, FTP, various hacks.
After months of a nightly reboot and a few other reasons I decided to take the upgrade to 7.2.1. these were my steps.
Round1
With drive in Tivo ran an edited InstallSw.itcl (# reboot)
Mounted partition 4,
Copied files to partition 4
Correct iptables file to /sbin (755)
Current rc.sysinit.author to /etc/rc.d
Current .profile to /
Added tivoftpd to /sbin
Tried copy in a 3.1.5 killhdinitrd'd kernel that I had a copy of on the drive to partition 3
dd if=vmlinux.px of=/dev/hda4
Oh Shi_! wasn’t the a careless mistake. Lost that drive.
Round 2
Pulled drive from Tivo to PC
Restored an old image of a hacked drive running 7.1b
Returned drive to Tivo. Tivo Booted and worked, hacks worked as well.
Verified bootpage to be "root=/dev/hda7 sotfwareupgrade=false dsscon=true console=2,115200"
Connected to Tivo for 7.2.1 download (now restarted round 1)
With drive in Tivo ran an edited InstallSw.itcl (# reboot)
Mounted partition 4
Copied files to partition 4
Correct iptables file to /sbin (755)
Current rc.sysinit.author to /etc/rc.d
Current .profile to /
Added tivoftpd to /sbin
Put a custom AlmostThere.png file in /tvbin
Copied in a 3.1.5 killhdinitrd'd kernel that I had a copy of on the drive to partition 3
dd if=vmlinux.px of=/dev/hda3
Also applied the NOCSO patch to tivoapp (won’t go into that)
Verified bootpage to now be "root=/dev/hda4 sotfwareupgrade=false dsscon=true console=2,115200"
Far as I know that is all that is necessary as that is how I went from 7.1b to 7.2 originally. Please let me know if I missed something
Now for the interesting part the Tivo booted and functions as it should. But no hacks, No Telnet, No FTP but NOCSO seems to work. I thought this was a killhdinitrd problem with the kernel so I pulled the drive only to find that all the files I added to Partition 4 were still intact and bootpage is still "root=/dev/hda4 sotfwareupgrade=false dsscon=true console=2,115200" I am now at a loss and could use some help. I do not have a serial dump but do have a copy of the kernel log. From that I can tell it is processing a rc.sysinit.author file I once created but not the one on partition 4 or 7. Also when the Tivo boots it does not display my custom Almost There image. This tells me the Tivo is booting from some other root that I can not find on any partition. Please Advise.
