View Full Version : JavaHMO, Galleon, now all the new HMO stuff

I decided to upgrade to Galleon since JavaHMO was deprecated. When I try to view a screen, any screen, the graphics just stretch out vertically to the point where it's unusable. I dumped it. I noticed with the new HMO stuff that ignoring the problem didn't make it go away. What program is displaying this stuff on the screen? And how did I break mine? Can anyone help me getting it working like it should?
<edit> To illustrate the problem, I've attached 2 snapshots.

This is the kind of response I expected. It's the same kind of response I got when I asked the question in the Galleon forum. Apparently nobody knows and I'm the only one afflicted. I guess I'll just live without the HME crap. It's not what I bought the TiVo for anyway.

Well, what kind of response could you possibly expect? You didn't provide any useful information that could be of any help to diagnose your problem other than "Help, I broke it! What did I do wrong?" I have no personal knowledge of JavaHMO or Galleon but it seems pretty clear that you'll need to provide more info before anyone could even begin to help.

just a guess, but did you update your java install lately?
do TiVo's HME apps do this too?

I do need a new eyeglass prescription but that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. I saw the images but unless he tells us what else he has done to the unit there's no way to know what could have caused the problem. The jpg images won't tell us squat about what hacks he may have installed and botched.

Ahh .. very good. At least there are people reading this. I had my doubt. My box is manually hacked using the killhdinitrd kernel method. I've installed Tivowebplus, elseed, the unified mfs_* tools, vserver, tserver, busybox, and EndPadPlus. Some things I've done that aren't obvious .. I played with the "screen" tivoweb module and used/edited different versions of
newtext2osd. I edited many tivoweb modules during the 4.0 to 7.0 upgrade when tivobweb stopped working. Aside from that, I haven't dicked around with many other files. If any.

No. I don't even know how to update java on my tivo. Though that might be what I need to do.
Yes. I only mentioned JavaHMO and Galleon because that's when I first noticed the problem. The screen caps I posted above are Tivo HME apps. Galleon is an HME app also.

I appreciate the criticism and I know how NOT to ask a question on this forum. (Just like I did). But I had no idea HOW to ask this one since I could find no other mention anywhere that sounds similar to what I'm seeing. That's why I asked "what program is used to display these graphics on the screen?". I figured armed with that knowledge, something might click as to what I might have done in the past.

If the tivo based (sanctioned) apps look like that, you should contact tivo tech support

If the tivo based (sanctioned) apps look like that, you should contact tivo tech support... If it happens on a stock (unhacked) image that you're sure is complete (no missing background animations, etc).

good point. I just couldn't think of a hack that screws with HME.

Not on your Tivo. On your PC.

I'm not running JavaHMO or Galleon on the PC. My complaint now is with the HME apps supplied by TiVo.
But the JAVA VM on my PC is in good health.

well we've answered all we can on the info we've got.
If one of your hacks messed up the HME code somehow you will either have to undo the dammage, or re-image the unit.

FWIW, I get the same screen "smear" for almost all of the new HME apps as well as all of Galleon. JavaHMO works like a champ however.
I'm wondering if its kernel related since I've been using the same killed 3.1.5 (2.4.20) kernel for all the 7.2 releases

I feel your pain. But I'm also a little pleased to hear that it's not just me. Until now I thought I was alone. To anyone else reading this: what changed between JavaHMO and Galleon? Like OhPossum, JavaHMO displays fine, Galleon smears.

I tested your theory. I booted my Tivo using 3.1.5/2.4.20 kernel and the Tivo supplied HME apps still run perfect on my TCD24008A/7.2.1.

Never used any of those 4 whatsoever. So by the process of elimination you might want to check up on what 4 those hacks are doing or have done. Would be interesting to know if ohpossum is running any of those 4 hacks also.

I'm running elseed, but none of the others. I'll disable elseed and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks!

Yep, it was elseed. Disabling it fixes all the screen garbage. No idea whats exactly wrong with elseed.

Thanks for the investigation. Now I know I'm not crazy either becuase this was bugging me. I just killed elseed and voila all the HME stuff works. I've seen this issue since way back when HME and Galleon were first released. Like other posters, I assumed it was the 3.1.5 kernel becuase that was something that I couldn't easily try, or at least not without getting off my couch to pop the drive.
Thanks again, now I guess I'll just have to tinker with elseed to see what's up. Throg, what flavor of Elseed were you using? I'm using the one customized for Vonage here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42251&highlight=vonage+elseed).

I wasn't even aware that there was more than one flavor. I'm using the generic one that works on S2 boxes.

I have JavaHMO working for music, pics, weather &tc, but the Local Movie Theater Listings plug-in is not working. Can anyone direct me to the JavaHMO movie plugin fix? I was told that it existed on these DDB forums, but after spending a night searching I still can not find it. I am also aware that JavaHMO has been deprecated, however since Galleon seems to require 7.2 software and I am running a DTivo 6.2 I need to continue using JavaHMO.
Thanks to all the people in the tivo community who answer newb questions like this on these forums. I'm sorry to waste your time-obviously my forum searching skills are less than adequate.
