Hi,
I've been using this forum and others to learn as much about this hobby as I can before I start hacking away. I have a TiVO S2 240 model as well as a a TCD540 model. I also have a 'spare' pentium PC that I'd like to set up just for backing up and/or hacking some files. I've searched all over this forum and cannot find any specific instructions on what UNIX/Linux version to load so that I can boot the PC from the HD instead of a boot CD/Floppy. Has any one tried this?

Summary of what I'm trying to do:

1. Set up spare PC with 20Gig HDD (Primary Master) to boot to Unix/Linux.
2. I have an IDE cable connected to the Secondary Master that I want to use to connect to Tivo Drive.
3. What bootable OS/Utilities would I install to the Primary Master to allow it 'see' the Tivo drive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Frank

You can use pretty much any Linux distro you like, I suppose. Shouldn't need anything special installed other than mfstools.

Go check out this post (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=246866&postcount=2). Ignore the windows part. You may want to read the entire thread. There is a good list of utilities that you should load after you install linux. There are several Linux distros that are "free". I use SuSE others use Redhat or Gentoo.

This is perfect! This is exactly what I was looking for. I guess that I didn't search quite enough.

Thanks for your help!!
