I know many Series 2 units need a socketed PROM to allow hacks to run. I understand the 240 series in an exception. I would strongly appreciate links to some threads or suggestions to use for searching to find out how to superpatch my unit so I can use Tivoserver.

I am NOT looking for any way to avoid paying for the TIVO service.

YES YOU SHOULD HAVE SEARCHED FIRST BEFORE ASKING. NONE OF THESE search arguments I used below were very hard to figure out and in fact they were all included in your post. I see from your other post you know how to change drives and do other things to your units and that you have been here much longer than I. So based on those facts, you do not appear to be a NEWBIE and should have searched before posting a lame question.
If you did search before posting then you perhaps should have started the question with "I have done a lot of searching and used arguments line xxx, yyy, sss, eee, ddd and have not found what I am looking for..........." (consider flame cost of having lame question answered, besides you practically flamed yourself in the title  )

I did a search for S2 240 and found this (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44002&highlight=S2+240). Then did a search for superpatch and found this (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43326&highlight=superpatch)which lead me here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43325). Not to mention the Stickies at the top of this Newbie category with pointers to all kinds of information about hacking.

So now you have lots of reading to do to get the what you want working. Also nail the hardware problem (in your other thread) before starting down the path of adding more unknowns to the mix and of course hack on a copy of the drives.

Thank you for those links I will read them over. When I searched on superpatch I was getting hits for DTIVO's and I felt that would confuse me more.

1) I know I flamed myself in the title because I deserve it for not searching harder
2)I have been a member for a long time but not a frequent visitor
3) My knowledge of removing drives, using dd and replacing drives came from my use of a Series 1. I became knowledgable enough on upgrading them when all that needed to be done was adding a tivonet card and blessing a drive. When it comes to Series 2 I know nothing other than where to buy brackets and upgrade cds.
