Spent a while on the phone with tivo, after searching these forums/the net relentlessly....seems like there's quite a few people with the same problem, and I guess no fix yet? TIVO tech support told me to basically get a new computer. I'm hoping somebody here will have a friendlier answer than that.
When installing TIVO Desktop (2.2), I get this error:
Invalid data type for "
then I there is an ok box for me to click. This happens right near the end of the installation. After I click ok, 5-10 seconds pass and it tells me everything was successful.
The TIVO Beacon service looks like it's setup and running fine, everything seems normal.
Now, I'll go to start TIVO Desktop, and I get this error:
Unable to start TIVO Desktop
Again with an ok box, and the program closes. The flash TIVO DESKTOP loading screen does come up right before that error is displayed. The progarm itself never seems to load up fully.
My computer is very much up to specs, with XP Pro SP2 installed, and only windows firewall running. I have tried disabling my firewall and anti-virus software, but no luck there. I even got to the point where I disabled ALL useless services and programs running in the background, in an effort to try and get this thing installed correctly, again no luck.
I have the Linksys USB200M ver. 2 and my tivo now has the 7.2.2 (the new update) software on it. The adapter is working fine with the TIVO, and I'm assuming that the desktop software is the problem here at this point.
I've recently tried installing Galleon, and have no luck with that either. It tells me Galleon can not be installed. In the log, I see the error comes with "The Tivo Beacon service could not be installed" listed.
Anyone know what's going on here? I'd love any and all suggestions, I'm out of options as far as I know what to try!
BTW, I did get the desktop service installed 2 months ago as I remember with no problems. However, I never had a chance to use it because I didn't have a broadband adapter to use with it, so I uninstalled it a while back. Is this possibly a newer release than was out a few months back? How can i get 2.1?? haha.
EDIT (update):
So I just now tried to install version 1.3 of Tivo Desktop (called TIVO Publisher).
I get this error during installation:
Internal Error 2753: TivoBeacon.exe
So obviously the problem here is coming from the installation, specifically with the beacon service....any ideas on some dependancies for this to work right?
EDIT (update):
alright, here's some more info. hopefully somebody can REALLY help out now.
I found a thread that said somebody made a new profile on XP and installed it on there.
Well, I did that, and of course it installed fine and everything works.
however now, I'm sure that if I could COMPLETELY uninstall tivo desktop on my main profile (meaning delete all the registry values, etc. that it puts in there...etc....) I think that perhaps it would install correct and everything could work how it should.
Can anyone help me out with this? I tried going to regedit and deleteing anything with the word "tivo" in it, but a lot of the entries said "cannot be deleted." Plus, I feel like I have to do more than that and I really don't know enough about the software to do this without some help.
Any ideas? Anyone from TIVO Support read these forums? It'd be nice to get a "COMPLETE uninstaller" made for the program....
Maybe I should just look into getting that superpatch thing working on my v7.2.2 software...with some hacks instead? ha.
