It is. The quality of my answer depends on the quality of the information you give us. I suggest you start with Captain Video's TiVo Hacking 101 (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37058).

you don't have to hack to get rid of the phone line
I assume your talking about a directivo
just unplug the phone line and delete the daily nag message about not connecting.

Everyday it's gonna want to make its call and i'm going have to delete everyday untill they threaten to shut my service off. If I have to hack to get around then that's what I want to do. Obviously I have some reading up to do. I just want someone to give me the heads up that I'm headed in the right direction.

Again, if you're talking about a Directivo, then yes, it will want to make a call everyday. Doesnt mean it has to. My unhacked HDTivo has never made a call. Sure I get the message everyday, but I just delete it.

If you have a Hughes DirecTiVo the only service that will get shut of is the ability to order PPV from the remote. You can always order PPV via the internet. Yes, you can hack it to block the messages, but DirecTV will still shut off the ability to order PPV via the remote after a few months.
