I'm getting a 'Data Corruption Error'. This is on the newly imaged drive or a drive that has dialed in and got the newest BE version. I am at a loss where the 'data corruption' comes from.
This happens at two differnt locations so i know its not the signal... I don't think its the drive since it boots fine and works ok... i thought it may be the image but the same image that's worked for me the past couple years still works.
Can a hardware problem cause a data error?
So, any input is realy appreciated, otherwise...this tivo will be sent out to the tivo pastures.
thanks again,

A hardware problem (bad ram) could cause data corruption. Could you explain a little more about what is happening?

PlainBill, I am putting a image on the new 250GB drive so i know it's a virgin image without any updates. When I boot the Tivo it won't go to live TV. It gives the data corruption error.
If it is the RAM can I just swap the mother board with known good HR10-250 or is the serial number on the board?
Thanks,

Sorry, the serial number is in the crypto chip and can't be changed. It could be bad ram, it could be something else. The short answer is the system is beyond my capabilities of diagnosing, let alone repairing.

Can you reccommend somewhere that may be able to repair the Tivo or replace the RAM?
Thanks

I don't know much about the Hi-Def units, but I'm thinking replacing those RAM chips would be an expensive nightmare. Is there a way you could verify if the drive is faulty?
I'm not sure if the serial ID is on a removable chip, but it seems moving that to a new motherboard would be a lot easier than replacing the RAM. Or, since its a DTivo unit, and you're quite possibly looking at getting a new board anyway you might just want to buy a new (used) unit and try the 722 trick with your access card, to just move your account to another HR10.

Well if by "serial number" we mean the number used in the encryption process, and there are shows you need to save that are encrypted, then a new motherboard/unit won't work. On the other hand, it looked like the OP was installing a new image, and if that means no videos, then switching to another unit should work just fine.
