Found some great instructions for upgrading my Hughes Series2 DirecTiVo from this forum and others, so I went ahead and bought the PTVnet, ICAKE, downloaded the Superpatch, Tytools and everything else mentioned in the walkthroughs. Everything went perfect, more hours of recording now, able to pull video from the DTivo and more. Many thanks to all of you that take the time to develop the tools, write the instructions and answer the questions.

I had the issue that many have encountered w/ caller ID not clearing and being blurry. I found a post w/ an updated elseed.zip file http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46089 along w/ the command line, thanks MRPENGUIN. Uploaded the files, ran the command and viola, caller id works great now. The only small issue I have is if I restart the unit I can't seem to re-enable elseed via HACKMAN, I need to use the command line (which is not a big deal) but just wanted to ask if there was an easy way to get it to work in HACKMAN again? Maybe upgrading HACKMAN? I just wasn't sure if there was a certain version that I need to use or if it's even worth it.

One other small question, when I extract video and convert to mpg then play it, the top edge of the video seems to have a little interference or something, it's not a clean edge like the sides and bottom. (hard for me to explain) Was wondering if that is typical (ubernoobness showing now :) I use Tytools to extract.

Try the search function with elseed and startup. There is a thread with a single post that seems to answer the question. Oddly enough the title of the thread is Elseed Startup Question

Thanks for the reply and I did see that post along w/ a few others on starting Elseed automatically when the unit boots up, but that's not what I wanted to do. I simply wanted the button in Hackman that starts Elseed to function again, it doesn't seem to work anymore. The one for YAC works fine but the button for Elseed, since I used the 7.x version, just refreshes the page but doesn't start it for me. I need to telnet into the DTivo and run the command line. It's really a non issue so it's what I'll do if I need to restart it in the future.

And regarding the noise/interference along the top edge of the extracted mpg2's. It seems its just an anomoly occurring w/ Windows Media player, heh imagine that. SVCD's look great and thanks again for all the help the upgrade was fun and satisfying!

That "noise" you're seeing on the top edge is normal. It is data, including closed captioning, that is always present in the signal. Those top lines are not meant to be visible on a television, which is why you only see it when you play it back on your computer. Google "VBI" if you are curious.
