If his is considered DTV service stealing please close this thread or otherwise delete this post.

I have a DSR7000 sleepered with two 120gigs in there and I love it.

Recently(within the last year) I have been going up to a cabin in the mountains about 4-5 times year. I was disconnecting my Dtivo and taking it back and forth, but I have fried it twice(endless standby......) I have purchased another DSR 7000 and am in the process of modding it with a single 120gig. Can someone point me in the direction to be able to use the same card in both Dtivos? I would like to pull my card when I go to the cabin, pop it in the Dtivo there and then bring it back when I come home.

I have searched a bit and found the crypto -u -ssn utility but after much reading I don't think this will work for me.

There was some other topic about reprogramming the 37's but that seems like WAY overkill.

Also I read something about using IDA, but not sure if that is the right direction.

And I don't think I'm stealing service becuase I pay for one card/box and only one card/box would ever be in use at any time.

If this is a forbidden topic, could someone please PM me, where I can continue looking for this information.

Thank you.

Wow I can't belive this is my first post...FYI I have been lurking for a while, not so much recently, but quite a bit when I first got my Tivo going.

And now again that I'm looking for a solution.

(Hello everyone!):D

Thanks again.

Hmm, theft of service?... Of the top of my head, I'd say no. Others may have different ideas. I AM sure DirecTV would disapprove.

According to some discussion I've seen here, the serial number of the receiver is placed in a non-rewritable area of the crypto chip on Series 2 receivers. If so, you're out of luck.

Since you have non-RID boxes, it might be very easy. If you call DirecTV and follow the menus for an on-screen error message of 'Call ext 722', it will marry any cards on your account to the non-rid receiver it is in. The only joker might be that the call must come from your home phone. That COULD be accomplished by having someone make the call from your home.

Alternatively, you can just activate the second receiver and take it up to the cabin on your next trip. Hook it up, leave it there and let it merrily record your favorite shows while you toil away in the big city. That would cost you $5 per month for mirroring.

The easiest thing to do is as PlainBill suggests; just get another card and activate it legally. You can then call and activate/deactivate it only for the time you will be at the cabin and probably only pay a prorated portion of the $5 mirror fee. Pretty cheap programming for a vacation home.
