I did a little searching and it looks like your problem is answered in question / answer 2 and 3 in this thread (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35229). Other stickies in that area of the forum may be helpful as well, including the one pointed to below. Hope this helps get you going in the right direction.

so your saying.. that the 'search' option,or seller option and refund route is all i have here.. the item took over 2 weeks to arrive,. and my thoughts on this 'adventure'with this 'seller' are liminted at best..there will be no 'contact' with this person... this is why i asked the newbie question.. i have searched ..i can not find anything on this subject.. but.. i see now.. how this 'database' works...you get the 'punt' option instead of some honest help...thanx

Remember the saying - You get what you pay for. You pay for stolen software, you get the consequences.

This is a do-it-yourself (DIY) hobbyist site for tivo enthusiasts, not outsourced technical support for eBay scams.

Let's see the multiple red flags here:

Bought 'pre-hacked' system from unscrupulous seller.
Don't know the state of the hacks or other software on the machine.
Searched the forums but "didn't find anything". *snark*

They say three strikes and you're out.

bill00500, I'd say you're better off downloading a clean 6.2 image or buying an Instant Cake CD, restoring the Tivo machine to a stock software state. Then hack it yourself, so you know what exactly had been done to the box.

You'll find all the info you need on these forums. And who knows, if you actually do the work yourself some of us may be more willing to help you work through valid DIY hacking issues.

What I am saying is the answer is in the FAQ answer 3 (previous link).

Q: Well the seller is ignoring my emails. I'm stuck here - what can I do?

A: If the seller is unresponsive, be sure to dispute the charge with your credit card issuer and/or Paypal so that you get your money back. You paid a HUGE premium for a level of service that you are clearly not receiving; these boxes cost $100 in the stores and cost exactly $0 to hack.

Next, find a virgin image (consult the image begging threads if you need help), apply it to your hard drive, and then proceed to hack the unit from scratch. This is the only way you can be assured that it is set up correctly. Most of the eBay vendors possess little or no hacking skill; after a few days' reading here, there's a good chance you'll have a better grasp of the subject than the guy who sold you the unit.

Because like YOU, we have no idea how it was hacked, or what software level, etc it has either. The newbie document pointed to in my signature is a great place to start. BTW software version is available through the standard setup menu via remote or panel buttons. Kernel level etc. is harder.

There is a small 6.2 level image around here. Which makes a great starting point. I would get a new hard drive (with the small image, size does not mater much) and lay the 6.2 small image on it. Then apply the hacks you like using the information in the newbie document. You can swap the old drive back in for "production" recording etc, until you get everything set up the way you like it. After that you might considering getting one of the $35 refurb units from weaknees.com and use the drive that came with the "hacked" one in it after you clear and rehack it.

Another option is to read the information found here and try to figure out what was done to the unit you purchased pre-hacked.

You will not get a lot of sympathy here because these are the guys (not me) who's work is being stolen. I would highly recommend leaving feedback describing your experience and something about the seller violating lic. and not providing support. Getting all that in 80 chars will require some work.

Standard network trouble shooting techniques apply such as can you ping the address of the tivo and get a reply. Also do you have a serial cable and when connected does it give you a bash prompt.
If so then what are the network settings being reported when you do ifconfig. The kernel logs are also a good source of PD information.
